How does free sound?

I've got two great options for you. Jajah.com and justvoip.com

Both are internet telephony that use your regular home phone, and call the other person's regular phone, but route most of the call through the internet.

In order for all calls longer than 5 minutes to be free on Jajah, both of you have to sign up for a free account. They're kind of vague on just how much time they'll give you for free as a registered user, but as long as you don't talk a whole lot, you should get it all free.

As for JustVoip, it seems to be totally free as long as you are calling to and from their free destinations, of which Australia is one.

There is a company called ACN that provides telephone service in Australia and their rates are usually less than the major phone service provider. Check out their website.
