I don't want him to give up on getting a date with me. I just want him to ask me in person, rather through text messages. He said he didn't like playing games. How can I show him that I'm not playing games, I'd just rather be asked face-to-face?

Tell him that you don't like being asked out through any means except being asked to your face. If you really want to show him then make a sign and show to him face to face.

if you havent told him that already you ARE playing games, just send him a text, saying you want to go ouy, but you would appreciate being asked in person, you are dangling him along just now, he is unsure of what you want since you havent said no, he is obviously unsure of the reception he will get from you, let him know, and go out and see what happens

Don't show him, you've told him and I agree with you. He's a good person not to date (unfortunately) because he doesn't respect your preference and even accused you falsely. He is lucky if you give him another chance, even if he does it your way.
You are worth more than he is acting like. If he doesn't shape up, move on for sure!

Hey, you have your standards. If he's not man enough to ask you out face-to-face, then he's not a real man. Forget about this boy.
