Everyone has to be held to a standard, and that standard with God is the Bible. When you listen to anyone speak you need to compare what they say with what the Bible teaches. If it isn't the same they are a false prophet, or at least prophesying falsely whenever they digress from scripture.

A good example of it would be these people who believe in "tongues". When you compare what they practice with what happened on the day of Pentacost it is immediately obvious that the doctrine is false. Just read it.

One criteria is whether deeds match words consistently, unfailingly. Other characteristics include profound innate knowledge from early childhood, rather than formal education, and claims that their knowledge is not of themselves, rather from He who sent them. We can also look for teachings which have a profound power to transform hearts and minds and bring into being civilizations greater and more glorious than anything previously. True prophets also claim spiritual connection with the other prophets and imply that they are one, though physically different, of course. No false prophet or philosopher can meet this criteria.

Because the "leaders" of Hellenic Paganism in the modern world do not describe themselves as prophets.

I do not claim my religion is right for everyone, just as no single shoe size is right for everyone.......

you look at what they ask of you to do & if that conflicts with the 'Standard' of biblical teaching. True prophets don't ask that you kill yourself... give them all your money....offer up your wives & daughters ...or say ...here ...drink this special Kool-Aid.
