it's the same as girls promising that buying their 50th pair of shoes IS a good idea and that they WILL wear them all the time... then leave them on a shelf still in the box for 10 years without ever going near them...

it just seems like a good idea at the time and they're too stubborn to admit they were wrong!

"My partner messed up. He is male. Therefore, all males mess up."

I'd suggest a course at the local college on logic.

A. Just because he did something you don't agree with, does not mean all men would.

B. Unless you are an expert of cars, you don't know the 5 things wrong are serious, or will cost a lot to be fixed.

C. Perhaps the old cheap car would have had 15 things wrong instead of 5.

D. You have applied the actions of one person to the entire class of people. Classic definition of prejudice.

E. If indeed it's a new car, it's covered under warranty for the repairs.

I could go on, but you're getting the picture, aren't you?

I don't think this is true of all guys - I think many women like a new car too. My car's 15 years' old, I've owned it since 1998 and it's great - I think buying a new car is a waste of money, it loses £1000s literally in the first year after it's bought anyway!

If you have purchased a new car, it should be covered by the manufacturer's warranty for most faults - though I do sympathize, as it must be frustrating when you've paid out all that money for something, only for it to be defective.

1. I think your question is sexist, many women have to have the latest car too and often they are impractical ones such as 4x4 for driving round the town.

2. I am male and I have a Volvo 760 Estate. It is 18 years old but serves all my needs, like carrying 5 people AND their luggage, the back also folds down so that I can carry a load if I want to.

My car was 5 years old when I bought it 7 years ago, it has cost very little in repairs, does 50 mpg. But then I am a lot older and a little wiser now.

A car is more than a box to get you from A to B. It is also a status symbol, to show everyone how successful you are, and what your image is. In other words, a fashion accessory.

What does your bloke's car say about him - unreliable? lol.

Cars become sex symbols for some guys. They don't realise the cost involved getting from A to B has to involve the price of a car.

Unfortunately, few women are like you - blokes have to get a bird-pulling car, or else they won't, er, pull.

I hasten to add that it doesn't mean HE wants to pull other women - it's ingrained through bitter experience and he can't help it!

There's also something else you mightn't have thought of - maybe he wants YOU to be riding around in something decent!

Because if you are going to make an investment as bug as a car (only thing more expensive would be a house) you want to buy somthing you like!

a car to most guys is one of his most favourite things he enjoys, kind of like a hobby which he wants to look good so he can either show off or enjoy it himself. but i do agree with you if there are problems with the car he should sell it because when i want to buy a car i want to know that there are no problems with it and if there are they would either be minor problems (which wouldn't cost much to fix) or i wouldn't buy it.
