I recently had an ultra sound examination. Can cancer show up on this examination?
The doctor said that I had fatty tissues attached to my liver only(my torso and organs were thoroughly checked). Should I consider myself all clear?

We can all tell you story of ourselves and what we went through, but only you can decided if you are comfortable with this diagnosis. I will say this not all cancers show up on ultra sounds. Once again this is only my story, my ultra sound showed no characteristics or property of cancer. They suggested I have the test rerun in 6 months. I chose not to wait and had the lump removed, in my case I ended up with cancer. I can tell you this I have had liver scans done and they found the same thing. They didn't do an ultra sound of the liver but a scan (like an MRI) Ultimately the decision is up to you. If you are having these questions have more test run. Just don't go over board liver biopsy are dangerous, if you go that way. Good Luck.

I have had ultrasound examinations both as part of my diagnosis of cancer and to check if the cance was present elsewhere.

The cancer tumour showed clearly at this time.

Some cancers can be microscopic in size and some do not form tumours, in neither of these cases would the cancer be detected by ultrasound.

Unless there is some other cause to suspect cancer is hiding, in which case your Dr would be suggesting further testing, accept the "all clear" and continue to monitor as your Dr recommends.

Ultrasound is very accurate at detecting and excluding some tumours. It can't however detect tumours in all areas, for example other types of scans are needed for bowel tumours.

Yes it can and I assume blood tests have been taken and checked. Dont worry, it sounds like the doctor is satisfied so you can be too. Live your life to the full and enjoy it

Not always, a MRI would though, if you are still unsure.
