I've never tried this but have taught my dogs tricks once in a while so I would say use whatever words you like, just be consistent with them. if you and your dog know what they mean - then fine.

first I would teach the dog the words for walk, trot etc while on walks. walk and run alongside your dog- he will naturally keep your pace when on lead and use the words. Then lots of praise and a small treat.

As for steering, I would do something similar, standing to the side, calling the dog to me, and teaching the word left. Praise and reward.

I'm not sure how would a 'bridle' work unless you are in the cart, and i think you'd need a big dog for this so as to not strain it.

with training any animal you need time and patience so good luck.

Haha, slave-dog.
Nice.

You can use any words you want, provided you keep them consistent when training.

My dog can understand commands in four languages-- English, German, Chinese and Japanese.

Tone is also important. You need to be dominant, commanding, but not harsh. As pack animals, dog's require a leader, or "Alpha male" to look up to.

As for words, use short, simple commands, of no more than two syllables.

Use plenty of rewards when your dog does something good, and don't hurt him if he doesn't do something how you want him to. Don't make him suffer for mistakes, help him learn from them with positive reinforcement.

Mushers use the words Gee and Haw for left and right.

You can use whatever words you want really. The dog doesn't care. Just be consistent in what you chose. It also helps if the commands don't sound alike, sometimes they can mix up two commands that sound similar.

I trained my sibe to pull me on the bike...uphill. I used the everyday words of Left, Rights, Pause (which is stopping), and OK for continuing. I did that for about 6months, tho ...Within a few weeks, she was ready to pretty do it on her own with lil help.
