You are better off going to the vet for several reasons.

1. Over the counter products are ineffective.
2. Over the counter products can cause your pet to become ill or worse.
3. If you order online, over the phone whatever, and your dog has a reaction to the meds, the company that makes them is not likely to help you out.

Why? Because companies like PetMeds for example, don't get there products from the manufacturer like the vet does. The company and you have no idea what's really in that med, how out dated it might be, or where its been.

Go to the vet to get it. It doesn't cost anymore than ordering it, in fact around here its more expensive to go through a mail order.

You do not have to get topical flea medicine on prescription. In fact, if you can find a reliable supplier of Frontline (or likewise - try an independent pet store), do it. They usually charge much LESS than at the vets. Most vets over charge for everything, including Frontline.

i was told by a vet i worked for that ordering the stuff online may be more expensive but atleast you are getting quality products. when ordering it other ways you take the HUGE chance that your animal could have a reaction-the mail order provider nor the company of the product is responsible. getting it thru your vet, you are paying for insurance if you will. if they get sick from the stuff or end up contracting a blood borne disease-they will atleast help pay for the vet bills-which can add up quite quickly! and usually require payment at time of services. plus the stuff online you have no true idea where yu are gtting it. they could ship it from say china and it be expired by the time you get it. over night or night the climate change could have a great barring on how the meds work. i wouldnt get anything online for my pet when it comes to them ingesting it or for tpical use. you never really know what you are getting and your dear friend will not be able to tell you what is wrong until possibly too late. pay the little extra and know what your pet is going to be enduring. plus-your vets will be able to help you directly instead of doing the 20 question game if god for bid something does happen.

You can get good quality flea medication at the pet store. Frontline or advantage are about the best. These are the same brands your vet will sell to you.Just be sure to read the package and purchase the right dosage. It goes by your dogs weight and will say on the box which one to get for your size dog .

I would say- go to the vet, they will give your pet a health check too. I use Frontline on my dog and highly recommend it.
not only does it kill fleas and ticks, but it stops them picking them up. I think for my dog it is £6 something for a treatment but worth it.
