...sadly some "religions" still are mourning the death of Jesus and seem to have a problem with "celebrating His Resurrection" !!! which is what makes it all "real"... those "religions" seem to have failed to break out of the original sadness of His death and continue to be held "religiously captive" by it... Celebrate !!! He has risen, just like He said !!!! (some "religions" still have Him nailed on the Cross")... He's NOT ON THE CROSS... He's alive, but "they" still can't get thru that yet... It's all part of "their" religious gymnastics to hold their believers captive by things that don't appear in Scripture... If you are a "believer", pray that God will remove the "veils" from their spiritual eyes and see His Glory...

It's not done often. Mainly it's on Good Friday. In that case, it's mourning the Crucifixion. Crosses are sometimes draped in black.

What it represents is a reminder what was wrapped around Jesus' waist after the Roman soliders strip him of the clothes he was wearing before he was nailed to the cross.

I think it's supposed to represent when Jesus was buried in the tomb right before he rose from the dead. I only ever see the cross like that around easter time.

The "veils" represent the shroud that Jesus was buried in when he died on the cross for our sins. Their color is purple, the color of royalty... not black.
