I do.

In Hebrew, it is "hatar."
"Hatar" means "to miss the mark," like an arrow being shot at a bullseye, but it misses.

Sin refers to the fact that God set a standard, a mark of perfection for mankind to attain to or "to hit."
All of mankind misses that mark.

The English word sin was originally an archery term. The distance from the center of the bullseye to the point where an arrow struck is known as the 'sin of the arrow'.

Not many, but here goes.

"A transgression of a religious or moral law, especially when deliberate.

Deliberate disobedience to the known will of God.
A condition of estrangement from God resulting from such disobedience.

Something regarded as being shameful, deplorable, or utterly wrong."

Of course, I don't think you want a specific definition from the American Heritage Dictionary.

Sin is doing what you know to be wrong whether you believe in God, the bible or any other religious context.

Sin is when you do something against yourself that causes you pain, regret, remorse and leads you closer to being a human being.

And you do it anyway.

Everyone ithink will disagree...

I think sin is unintentional acts...and intentional acts that defy god. Ignorance is a sin too. If you attempt to learn things and didn't quite catch a sin......its unintentional and its not quite the same knowing it. Worst sin is when you think a "sin" is "no big deal".

Lets say drinking apple juice is against your religion. The worst sin is to drink apple juice and say wellll its not big deal. Drinking apple juice and saying...yeah i know i shouldn't do this......its still a sin...but not quite as bad.

hypocrisy

Not sure if that answered your question.

SIN is separation from God, going against God's way of doing things. We sin all the time.

Sin means different thing to different folks.
To the common sense man - unbelief, meaning don't believed God and His Word
To the unconflicted man (conscience dead) - sin is not to do what feel good - just do it!
To the Atheist - sin means to believe God is The Creator
To the Liberal Political Man in Power - sin is not to take his ward for a ride.
To the religious people - they all have their own ideas
To the Religious Christian - sin is to missed the mark meaning, the Mark God has set for man. (HIs Eternal Purpose for men, I supposed.
To the Apostle Paul, sin is not acknowledging God as God, I think he is referring especially to the atheists of his days and our too!
To the Lord Jesus, sin is not to believes God and His Son Whom He has sent!
There are more - maybe some one else can add it on ..?

In short is be your own "God", by taking over HIS PLACE AS GOD. !

an archery term meaning to miss the mark
In Romans 3 it gets more specific stating that all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory. We never even made it to the target.

Sin means to go against what is right. But there is a fight in every human .Good against evil.It is a sin to lie.But if some lady gets her hair done and they did a bad job but she loves it and she asks me how does it look.I'M going to lie and tell her it looks fine.I dont want her to be crying all day and feel miserable. There is a fine line. That is why I need Jesus to help me with all this stuff. And He does.

I know that the Greek word used translated as sin, 'amartia, means "falling short". In Greek the verb would be used for "missing a target" or "falling short".

Sin is simply missing the mark... however the reason why people miss the mark is not because they have no choice but they don't live their knowledge. So it becomes more so knowledge not lived at its foundation. Or as James put, " Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin." (James 4:17 KJV).

So there is no sin, but it is you who create sin when you don't live what you know.
