If you have a dog or a neighbor that has a dog, try getting him to "mark" the lawn, If that doesn't work or if you can't find a dog (and this sounds sick) try getting a throwaway cup and urinate into it poor it in the spots they seem to be "poohing" in the most
they should get the hint.

I found some good tips at this website. I copied and pasted them for you. I hope these help! Good Luck and God Bless!
1. Firstly, are the cats causing a problem owned or unwonted animals. If you believe these are unwonted animals you should contact your local council or animal welfare group for assistance in removing these animals to an animal shelter.
2. If you are unsure of who owns the cat a friendly open letter to your neighbors describing the cat and asking them to contact you, popped in their letterboxes may well elicit a contact from the owners.
3. If you know the owners a friendly chat to let them know the cats are encroaching on your property is the way to start. Many cat owners don't realize that their cat is wandering and appreciate the feedback.
4. Discuss with your neighbors the possibility of them keeping their cats indoors. Humane Society has produced a fact sheet on how to train an outdoor cat to stay indoors more, and how to keep indoor cats happy.
5. Cat repellant sprays and gels are available from many plant nurseries.
6. Spraying cats with water from a hose or water pistol once they are inside your backyard will discourage them from returning
7. Place wire at an offset from the top of your fence and cover this gap with soft material to prevent cats climbing over your fence
8. Grind black pepper and chili together and spread the mixture around your garden
9. Placing slow soak hoses along the boundary of your property can discourage cats from entering your property
10. Cats do not like the smell of citrus - scatter some orange and/or lemon peels around your garden (citronella and pine cones are also considered to be good cat repellants)
11. Cats apparently avoid geraniums, petunias, marigolds and fuchsias
12. Plant spiny plants or place corrugated irons around the base of trees to stop cats from climbing them
13. Make sure feeders and bird baths are placed out of a cat's reach
14. Spread thorny branches around your garden
Good Luck with your kitty problem!

Try sprinkling Cayenne pepper on the ground. That will only work for awhile and you would have to reapply.. Cats like to go in the dirt so if you can't keep them in the house, use the pepper...it comes in powder (I have used it in house plants for same reason). Good luck

Moth balls, they won't hurt the cat and won't affect your garden either. But, they will keep cats out of your garden. They work very well!

Use lava rocks as a ground cover.
(And that urine thing really does work. Works against raccoons getting into the trash too)
