They'll usually be able to get them. In most cases however, the Drill Instuctors, are going to make the recruit share everything thats in there. That's a part of the training process, and unit building.

You do not want anyone to mail you a care package. Take my word for it. You have to open it in front of everyone and most likely the TI will give you hell about whats in the package and your not going to get to keep it. Letters and cards are the best thing to get, and even those if there are pictures in the you have to show the TI. If I was you I would tell my family no care packages. Thats what I did.

DO NOT SEND ANYTHING except cards and letters. NO FOOD and NO magazines or newspapers or anything else for that matter, unless the recruit specifically asks for something(stamps, writing paper)

Yes you can send care packages. I would confine them to edible items because recruits don't have space to store much of anything not issued to them and they most likely won't be allowed to keep them. They can't store edible items either but they can be shared with others.

My mother sent me small packages of cookies. Was a nice thing to get and share with my new friends. You receive it at mail call and you do have a little personal time.

Best case scenario, they won't be allowed to have it and you wasted your money.
