It happens to most people. It's just nerve endings trying to settle down into the sleep pattern. Although it can be disturbing, it really isn't anything to worry about.

oh yeah, that is usually caused by the "falling sensation". Usually this happens to me when I am falling into sleep mode fast instead of drifting, but sometimes when I am already asleep too, and it wakes me up and has my heart racing a trillion beats a second it seems. Just try and fall asleep in a more relaxed, comfortable and natural position and it should relieve most if not all of the problem for you. Try not to lay/sleep on your back, as I have found this is when/ how it happens most frequently for me.

Sometimes I am jerked awake by a dream. Have you been told you jerk while asleep. It is probably while you are dreaming or perhaps your body can't relax. Try having warm milk before you go to bed.

Do you feel like you are slamming onto the bed when it happens, or falling? If so, it could be a product of astral projection. It would be your astral body coming back into your physical body. Some people don't believe in it. But I've had it happen to me for years.

If your sleeping, how do you know you body jerks?
If you're jerking your dreams are full of action or your body is cold. If your not sleeping alone tell the person not stare at you while your sleeping.

When you're asleep you're in a different mode. It happens to me too. It's involuntary & means nothing.

and it wakes you right back up right? I do that just about every night, just after nodding off, wakes me back up. I always wondered what made me do that too, but apparently I'm not the only one who does that.
