Are they trying to look good for girls? Or maybe to look good to get their way when they need it? Or is it that they think they might see an especially attractive guy? Or something else?

because they want to be able to brush a good number of guys off... it makes us feel worthwhile... worth fighting for,
also it depends on the WAY you come on to a lady..
we dont like disrespect or something to forward..
something simple and sweet with someone who can light our fire as well as meet our preferences...
no woman looks for the same kind of guy as anyother
unless they are best friends.. and even then.. everyones idea of a great guy is different..

Girls do try to look good for other girls, not usually because they're gay, but women are unfortunately competitive and many women tie worth into looks, so many try to look good because often times women who spend a lot of time on their looks or won't leave the house without proper hair and make up tie their self esteem in with their appearance. It's a look good feel good thing. Women who wouldn't be caught dead without make up or the right clothing are deeply insecure.
This insecurity may be part of why they ignore male attention. They might want a self esteem boost with no interest in a relationship. They might thing that some men are too good for them or just after sex, which is kind of funny since they spend so much and tie so much into looking sexy.

Depends on the guy either he's nice or trying to be nice girls can judge that pretty wisely. they make themselves look attractive which men also try to be. your question is - why do girls turn away guys - coz they always want a guy better than what they are....

I dress up and make sure I am perfect, to have the power to blow guys off and to look the best when I go out with my guy.

They are usually only interested in what they cant have. So if you are interested then they aren't. If however you ignore them then they start to try to gain your interest, this is the reason for the make up and crap.
The problem is once they succeed in getting you to want them then they go back to not wanting you again.
It's all just a game, Ignore them and find a real woman.

no they are looking good for men, but obviously the guys they blow off aren't their type. some women have men and just like to look good in the street. i myself an single, and look good because i feel good, and ys i blow off alot of guys because i know its just sexual (their attraction), alot of the ones i see are weither ghetto and dirty looking or dont approoach me. i think all becauae a woman is presentable doesnt mean she wants to be hit on by random people. she just looks good.

if a girl blows someone off.. she isnt interested in him, just like it happens with any guy too.. just coz a girl likes to look good doesnt mean she will accept just abt any guy.. every woman has her own choices and preferances like any man and good looking girls r more picky because they know they can get a better deal..

makes them hard to get, makes the guys working on them, keep trying, like working out, tries to find the perfect guy for her. like a guys who wants a hot woman, so hot woman also wants a hot guy.

trying too hard to get a guy's attention. seriously i never know what exactly are they up to. how much makeup you wanna slap on and how short you want your skirts to be just to have a guy hit on you? i mean if a girl's hot and everything and her personality's zilch, no guy would want her. lotsa girls fail to see that.
