I have always used copperslip, because that is what was at hand the first time that I removed the breech plug. It has never given any problems, should be available at any auto shop. There are several different brands, it's the gold coloured grease for use on spark plugs, exhaust clamps etc. One tube will last a lifetime.

In over 30 years shooting 'smokepoles', rifles & pistols alike, I've always used black (dark gray) molybdenum axle & front end grease as a fitting lubricant. I had some loaded in a grease gun in my parents' garage when I first started shooting 'powder' & just thought "WTF" and it worked GREAT!
I have never found out if it's the 'moly', or just the characteristics of the grease, but, using it on plugs and nipples alike, I have never had a problem with stuck fittings that many others seem to have!

I use a product called "Mollycoat". It is a bit messy but it works great. I've had no problems removing a breach plug or nipple when I use it. Just don't over do it and plug your nipple.

I like CRC Extreme Pressure Anti-Seize Engine Assembly Lubricant, its a lithium hydroxy strearate-based grease with Molybdenum disulfide and graphite. It is also good for use as a firearms lube as well as an anti-seize.

WHITE LITHIUM GREASE with PTFE is another good choice for anti-seize and lubercation on firearms.
