No they don't, that is a Federal offense. No one can open your mail unless they have a court order. They will make you open it in front of them if they suspect contraband but they will not read it.

No. They won't read the letter as long. If the envelope is thick or bulky you will have to open it in front of them just to make sure there aren't any "bad" photos or contraband items. You can even recieve packages (at your RDCs discretion of course) Now, if you don't lock them up in your A/B drawer or it's unlocked and you're too far from it, they will read it over the loud speaker. But other than that, go for it; me and my husband talked really x-rated in those long awaited letters...

When I was in boot camp they did not read your mail but... if it was anything more than a letter you had to open it in front of your company commander and the contents were inspected for contraband. This included "thick" envelopes. I don't know if it was Navy regulations but in my company, the packages with goodies were pooled and shared with everyone in the company.

Nope, they will not read your mail.
If there is anything inside the letter, they will open it to remove that item, or make you open it, so they can see what it is.
They do generally read anything on the outside of the envelope though.
Thats fair game.

I don't think so. But never send anything illegal. It would be better to write a letter like a lady or a gentleman to prevent any possible embarrassment or trouble.

No they do not open letters. They do open packages in your view though. It is not a Federal Offense either the government owns you. As far as the other guy saying no one can open your mail he is wrong they open mail in U.S. prisons.

if the RDCs have reason to believe inappropriate content is in the letters, they can and will make you open them in front of them.
