Mind over matter?

Yes.

I'm not so sure what this "spiritual illness" means, but yes, stress can cause aches, pains, panic, etc.

Psychological conditions can definitely take a toll on one's body especially if one suffers from a preexisting condition that can and will be exacerbated by mental exhaustion and stress.

The root of all sickness is a spiritual sickness. There is a root problem for cancer which is bitterness and unforgiveness. That's just one example. So to take care of the sickness, you'd have to pray and seek what the root issue is. And then deal with the root and figure out why it was there in the first place. IT could be someone's past of abuse or a tragedy they never got over, someone they never forgave and it ate at them from the inside out, jealousy, sin, hate, and also disease and cancer can be passed down as a curse through generations. It may have started off as a great, great grandfather's sin that caused the curse to begin. And then carried on. But there is a cure. When somone gets saved, that's the first step of spiritual wholeness. Our bodies take awhile longer. But the Word of God is healing. God can do a miracle too instantly or a slow healing process, but Studying, speaking and believing His Word will bring healing to the soul. Then to the flesh.

If I'm angry, under stress, or upset, the first thing that's going to respond is my digestive system. I've had ulcers and ulcerative colitis simply because something in my spirit wasn't right. The same thing is true when I know I need to apologize to God and to someone I've hurt -- I end up with a headache or muscle aches until I do.

So I'd say that yes, physical illnesses can often be traced back to something wrong with the spiritual part of the person.

I absolutely believe that if medical science keeps advancing, even the most skeptical will have to acknowledge there is a connection. Some will try to hold on to the idea that it is "all in your mind," but I know I also am a spiritual being, and I know when I have been spiritually ailing. I am also aware that my mind is not always well!

Studies are showing a strong correlation between healthy spirits and effects on the body. I think that if ones spirit is a mess the body will suffer, hence why Psalms 147:3 says he heals the broken hearts and binds up all their wounds. God fixes our hearts or spirit first, then fixes the physical part.

Spiritual well being is no guarantee of physical well being. One has nothing to do with the other. Believers don't live any longer than non-believers.

I know it is. The soul enlists the aid of the body to get the attention of the mind. When our soul gets sick, it will do what it has to do to save itself. When I was dying, my mind finally got it. My soul utimately won the battle, and here I am.
