Hmm... I've never celebrated Halloween before, in my country it is not celebrated and the 3 Halloweens I've had in the US were busy, in one I was moving, another one I was working and another one I was very busy on MySpace to go outside :P But when I was in DR I always wanted to go ask for candy and stuff.
I ask this because this would be my 1st Halloween being a Mormon and Halloween is celebrated Sunday night.... Sabbath Day. And, what does the church think about the Halloween beginings, do the church ban celebratin this Holiday?
Thanks, love you all ^_^

so sad all these haters-- anyway to answer your question- yes we do celebrate halloween! it's a very fun holiday! we don't read in to the origin of it- it's about dressing up, having fun and having fun being a kid, or having fun being LIKE a kid again! with it being on sunday- it is still the sabbath, so, it's your own personal decision, but my opinon is it is breaking the sabbath. But, your ward or stake should be having some planned activity on Sat. Most wards have a truck or treat or a halloween carnival, and if you are in a singles ward, they usaully will have a party with dancing, and the ward i used to be in would have an annual haunted mansion one of the members house (which was a mansion) it's so much fun! enjoy it, and make your own decision about it being on the sabbath.

Halloween this year is Wednesday, not Sunday. It's always Oct. 31st. Unless you're here in Nevada. We celebrate Nevada Day which is the last Friday in October. Like others have said the church doesn't have anything against dressing up or going trick-or-treating. Often wards will have activities like dinners, dances, or trunk-or-treats to offer safe environments. They do say at these activities people shouldn't wear masks or dress up as the other gender.

Actually, Halloween is on a Wednesday this year. October 31, my birthday!
I don't know that we "celebrate" Halloween, but I've been to Halloween parties at church, both for kids and for young adults. The best one was a haunted house we created! Some have "trunk or treat" or set some families up in rooms in the chapel, to go trick or treating.

Halloween is a cultural holiday within the Church. In countries which observe trick-or-treating, Mormons observe it. Many congregations have Halloween dances (costumes welcome, but no masks). Many congregations also do "trunk or treat" in the church parking lot. It provides a safe environment for the children to show off their costumes (adults, too!) and get candy they can trust.
If October 31 falls on a Sunday, Halloween will be observed on Saturday.

Yeppers...feel free to celebrate Halloween. Just don't go worshiping demons or anything now. Just have a good ol' time using the excuse to dress up real goofy. Most wards will have a trick or treat thing at the church building. Ask your Bishop or the primary president if you guys are doing anything this year. I'm sure they could use some help if you wanted to give it.

Yeah those other people that answered you question are dumb! anyways. Yes we do celebrate Halloween. Usually if it falls on a Sunday your ward or stake will do some kind of Halloween party on Saturday, but When I was growing up we went on Saturday, but I grew up in Utah so everyone else did too. My husband grew up in Arizona and his family always just went on Sunday. You are just walking around and you are not making anyone work so I think it is OK to go trick or treating on Sunday.

usually when Halloween falls on a Sunday, at least in the state that I live in (washingtion), Halloween is celebrated on the following Monday by everyone. If Halloween was celebrated on Sunday then I would not participate because it is not a spiritually uplifting activity.
Yes we do celebrate Halloween
I think that PONO7 says it best. I think that she should get the 10 points.
I hope this helps you :D

I'm honestly not sure. I personally never celebrated any holiday except for birthdays because I grew up as a Jehovah's Witness so I'm not too sure which holidays latter day saint celebrate because I'm convert as well.
But I do remember in the other Ward they had a stake dance at that time and the youth got to dress up in costumes so, I assuming it's alright.

It depends on how strict they are. I grew up in a largely populated Mormon city in Mesa Arizona. There where Mormons in my school and when I arrived on Halloween night while trick or treating a lot of the kids did not go out that night because there parents would not let them. But also a lot of Mormons who didn't care did. But for the most part no they do not celebrate it. But some do just for fun.

Yes Holloween, Christmas, Easter, New Years, Valentines, St Patricks Day, Memorial day, Independance Day, My Birthday, Columbus day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving. and many other regional Holidays in many countries.
I live in California so we celebrate Cinco de Mayo, Dr. MLK JR. Day, Even Malcom X day.
I'll celebrate most things if it will give me a day off at work.
