I had my bathroom gutted completely and purchased everything new from Lowes and Home Depot. I had professionals install my new Kohler steel tub, glass sliding doors, designer toilet, the best "build-in" sink (sink is molded into the counter top), new cabinets with 2 drawers, 4 doors/shelves, all in real wood, floor and shower/tub tiles from tub to ceiling and total cost was $9,000.00 !! It was professionally installed too, I did nothing. Its all about finding the "best for less" ! I live in Southern California too! Good Luck !

To redo an existing bathroom , I start at about $4500 for basic tub , sink ,toilet , floor tiles , taps and tiled tub walls. Costs increase depending on any of these items being above basic. A single shower/tub tap set can go over $1000 . If you are making a bathroom where there wasn`t one before it depends on which floor and how much wall ,and floor/ceiling, has to be opened up to run the plumbing and new wiring, as well as new vent pipes up to the roof , plus a bathroom fan is now required by code in most new builds or rebuilds. Might want to check local codes on that one.I`ve redone an existing bathroom that cost over $25k with no modification to the size or relocations. Good luck

RE:
How much does it cost to remodel a bathroom?
I know that I'd have to buy a new tub & shower along with a toilet & sink but what else do I need to think about? We are also changing the location into a small bedroom the is about 12X14 big. I'm thinking 16 inch tile on the floors & 6 inch around the tub area. Everything else would be...

The only way to really answer this is to lay it out and decide on what tiles you want and the cost of them, they range from 69 cents and up up way up. Then add your fixtures and cabinetry. If your flexible you can go to some stores and purchase cabinets that have been returned for whatever reason and get a great deal but that's a lot of work. I don't think that it going to be that hard to figure out but moving the plumbing like your talking about is going to cost you big. If you like watching how to shows. There are a bunch of them on HGTV, DIY and my favorite Fine Living. They have fantastic shows with all the newest latest. I have seen them do total guts of bathrooms and the prices they come up with are 40 to 60 thousand. I think this is way over priced. But when they tell you the cost of certain tiles they are always double what they cost us here in S. Florida so It might be the higher cost areas of California where these prices are coming from. I am also working on gutting my bathroom and I am still trying to decide on tiles to use. I can tell you to stay away from natural marble/ stone cause you can not use any cleansers on it. We are doing all the work ourselves so I am not really worried about the cost of stuff.

It's going to vary somewhat, depending on the area you live in and the amount you want to do. I read an article just yesterday, believe it or not, that compared the prices of remodeling in different cities. Here in Indianapolis, the cost of a high-end remodel (all new countertops and fixtures, etc.) runs about $22,000.00. But it can add quite a bit to the value of your house--up to 80% of the cost in some cities (only 63% here).

It depends on your budget. The sky is the limit really. Are you replacing or moving the shower/tub, stool and vanities? That is the most expensive part of a bath remodel. Flooring and lighting, mirrors and other accessories not so much unless you are going for the higher ticket items. We had a bath put into our basement in our previous home, kept it pretty low key (it's a basement) and we still spent between $6000 & $7000. Get some quotes once you decide your budget.

We have a master bedroom that has the old open bathroom it's not enclosed. How expensive is it to tear down the closet wall and bring it out more and then enclose the bathroom and closet kind of together?
