Predicting the future is as about as useful and productive as trying to push a rope.

There are indicators that can be useful, however.

Look at market share. If Olympus is near the bottom then its unlikely they will continue in the DSLR market.

Check innovation - has Olympus brought anything new to the DSLR field? Do they have anything in development?

Have they become simply a "re-brander", buying another company's product with the Olympus name on it?

Economics was defined by the British economist Lionel Robbins as: "The study of the uses of scarce resources which have alternative uses." The "Market", by prices, profits and losses will direct the use of those scarce resources which have alternative uses to their most efficient use. Examples of this are endless. Perhaps a few recent ones will suffice.

Typewriters. As computers became commonplace in the business world, typewriters lost their market share. An entire industry disappeared.

Automobiles. Plymouth, Oldsmobile, Camaro, Firebird, Studebaker all consigned to the dustbin of history (although the Camaro and Firebird are being resurrected) as their market share decreased and the resources used by them were re-directed to more efficient uses.

Cameras. Minolta. Konica. Ricoh. Contax. Practika.

In all likelihood Nikon and Canon will continue to dominate the DSLR market with Pentax and Sony earning enough market share to remain viable.
