So nascar extended it from the top 10 to the top 12 to some what gaurentee that their most popular drivers, ie gorden Dale Jr stewart, actually make the chase. But here we are 2 races to go and Jr is yet again sitting on the outside looking in with almost no hope of making it. Whats next for nascar? Let the top 15 in next year?

I'm aware that gordon and Jr both made the chase last year, but you can't argue that nascar didn't extend it to 12 drivers just so their superstars could make it in. With Jr being so popular, you know they stand to lose money by not having him in the chase.

Originally this series was based on consistency, the more consist you are on the track the better your chances of winning the championship are and Well, of course not now any more. Nascars big issues were with the NFL. Soon as football season starts the rating for NASCAR racing drop. NASCAR had to come up with a way to make the sport more interesting so they can compete with football. They really can’t compete with football. I would be more interested in watching NASCAR racing more if it was fair for all teams. Drop the top 35 in and make it the fastest 43 in. No more than 2 maybe 3 teams per car owner and no ways out of it like Jack Roush can do. Limiting the teams per owner would allow more of the smaller teams to function properly in the sport. NASCAR big wigs are very greedy, a large amount of money was given to NASCAR to make a race date for California… they took the cash. NASCAR says they try to help out smaller teams by doing background checks on possible sponsors but, Nascar ends up taking those sponsors away from the smaller teams and uses them for winners circle sponsors, pit road sponsors, etc. There’s no way a small team will survive and get a decent driver when Kyle Busch gets a signing bonus of 10.5 million dollars. There’s no top driver that will just drive a race car in NASCAR racing for less than $30,000 a week. So, no top drivers will ever go to a small team and no small teams will get huge sponsors. The drivers say that they race to just win and are not worried about money well, they wouldn’t be racing in Cup and Busch if it wasn’t for the money. Nascar dug themselves into a huge hole with all their greediness.

Nascar is just trying to make it a little more exciting, adding two more drivers and changing the points a little. I think its better now than the old way, if we were racing with the old rules, there sure would be a lot of upset fans out there because Gordon would already have the Championship and the season isn't even over yet. This way Nascar has given all the drivers a chance that will be in the chase not just the 1st place driver. Also i don't think that they change the rules just to let certain drivers get in. Jr has had a bad year, but will make up for it next year with HMS.

Go RCR!!!
Go Jeff Burton!!!

NASCAR will do what they have to to make money.
The chase and the locked in 35 cars and provisionals are making the racing less intresting.
But they were all politically motivated to make sure the more popular drivers and teams make it to the top and are in the show each week.
There are good teams that go home every week that NASCAR takes their entry fees and knows that they have no chance in making the race.
So stop the chace and race for the championship.
Drop this top 35 bull and let the fastest 43 race.
And shelf the provisionals they serve no purpose now with the locked in 35.

Jr finished 5th last year in the Chase, and J. Gordon was 6th. So you say the Chase had to be fixed because they were in the Chase last year?

The 12 places replaced the 400 point rule from the original chase, and drops the 11th place bonus.

Being in the top 12 doesn't guarantee you going to New York. Only the Top 10 go, not Top 11.

I doubt there will be changes just because Jr Missed the chase. There was no change in 2006 because Gordon and Jr both missed the chase in 2005.

Agree with the 1st post. Man are you dumb. They do this to make it more exciting sure they screwed it up in some ways but the more there are the more fights bangs and wrecks we get to see along with some awesome racing. stop bashing the drivers you hate. that proves nothing. jr and gordon finished 5 and 6th respectively. so they made it from 10 to 12 so they can get in? they were in no danger of falling out. man research before you bash people.

and sparkle you NEVER need a fast car to win you just need a good handling car that doesnt blow up. faster is nice but that gets you into more wrecks and that causes dnf. you just have to be able to manuever your car and work it up to the front. i dont care if u take to the very last lap to take first thats what a real nascar car should do. they also just have to take advantage of the situation that is in front of them to get a win.

EVERYTHING NASCAR does is for the money. The more cars in the chase, the more money they can get from sponsors. Racing used to be a sport, now it is a politically motivated money machine. I've been a race fan for over 50 years and the longer I watch, the more I wonder why I'm still watching.

Money drives ALL sports so it's not just the top drivers they want in the chase it's because the more cars that are in the chase the more SPONSERS that are happy. TV coverage mainly focuses on the cars in the chase and the more TV time for the SPONSERS the more advertising they have!
NASCAR wants to keep the sponsers and owners happy, not the fans!

what does it really matter for JR. there was no way for him to make it this year how can you win if your team knows that your leaving besides how many times did he blow up this year or dnf's you can't win without a fast car and or a car for that matter. Gordan that's a given, Stewart, Carl Edwards, they win races. you must win or at least come in the top 10.
