I used to love it, yet when listening to a song about how they lost their job, had to travel and can't pay rent and feel like the singer is talking about you, it gets depressing.
My life is turning into a damned blues song.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to learn to play the blues. An musician once said, I rather sing the blues and move through the hard spots in my life then actually have them

I think you looked at the blues as entertainment, now that you have the blues you really need to look at the music in it's true form and how it originated. Slaves in the south would sing the blues to express their pain and pass a long hard day of work. As time passed the daily frustrations of every day life would be lamented by singing about them in a blues song. I hope you can begin to "feel" the music. If you can I guarantee it will help you during trying times. Good luck to you.

Well, all I can tell you is that your are somehow missing out on the therapeutic effect of the blues.
Yes, many (BUT NOT ALL!) blues songs are about woman trouble, money trouble, drinking trouble, job trouble, trouble trouble trouble....But the point is to use the music, whether you are playing or listening, to exorcise the pain!!
Think of it as a musical enema. It might not be the most enjoyable experience, but you feel a lot better after you get all the sh*t out!
If the above still isn't doing it for you, listen to upbeat, positive blues....
"you ought to see my baby when she walks down the street, upsettin' everbody she meets. she's 24 in the waist, 38 in the hips, she's got long black wavy hair and ruby red lips...."
GOOD LUCK :)

I love the blues, its one of my favorite music genres and I have NEVER found it to be depressing at all, even if they are singing about bad stuff in their life. The music for me is so into the soul and I truly enjoy listening to a good blues song.

Yeah, sometimes it's almost too much to listen to those kind of slow, really sad blues songs...
I turn to Howlin' Wolf a lot when I'm really down, because his songs often had this edge like.. 'Ok, everybody's tryin' to push me around, and maybe my woman's doin' me wrong... but you better not f*** with me.. this isn't the time'. I end up singing along with the songs.. makes me feel better.
Some of my facorite 'sing it out' songs include 'Long Distance Call' by Muddy Waters, 'Killing Floor', 'Spoonful', 'Ain't Superstitious' and 'Dust my broom' by Howlin' Wolf, and 'Blues at sunrise' by Albert King.
I don't know if that helps any, but maybe... :-)

Well........if it's any consolation......probably most of the newer blues tunes are written by upper middle class or rich musicians whose biggest life challenge has been whether to get the Mercedes, or the BMW!!!!!!!!!
Sometimes it's good to be able to relate to a song........to feel a little blue .....it makes one appreciate the small victories in life. Maybe try listening more to instrumental tunes.

The blues is about healing. You sing about these things because they hurt, and in singing ... you feel empathy and healing.
