I live and work on Hurlburt field, Florida.
I am not in the air force, 21 year old who works for services as a waiter/cashier on base. My father is in the air force. does this make me an air force employee since I work for the Service Squadron / NAF "non appropriated funding"

Being a NAF employee means that you are NOT a government employee. Your status is the same as the guy who works at an on-base Burger King or Pizza Hut.

Edit:

To John W. I'm not knocking NAF employees. Perhaps I used a bad example; but in regard to being considered a government employee, he isn't. His employment status is in fact same as the guy who works at the post laundry or my status as a contractor.

NAF employees are NOT civilian employees. Civilian employees are paid with appropriated funds, ie funds that Congress appropriates for their jobs. NAF employees are paid using, as you said, non-appropriated funds that are generated through the various base activities, such as snack bars, movies, exchanges, etc.

NAF employees play an important part is supporting the troops by helping to keep morale up. Especially for the younger troops that away from family.

It's not like slinging burgers at McDonalds. Even if you don't see it, you play a big role in supporting the troops. Thank you for your service to them.

NAF employees aren't considered "federal employees" or "air force employees"

APF (appropriated funding) employees are considered air force employees, federal employees.

You're all the same to me though, good hard-working people in support of base services!

If you get a paycheck from the Dept of Defense, then yes you can say you are a civilian employee of the Air Force, or the DoD.

If not, then no. What I mean by this is - if you are paid by a sub contractor suppling services to the AFB, then you are not a DoD employee.
