some military people have to make their living with under $20,000/yr.......the life style is already difficult with all the constant training and being away from there family....and also the physical effort you have to make......the physical damage a soldier recieves from wearing all that body armor........i know people who go overseas in perfectly good health and comeback with ten years of body damage.....bad ankles, knees, back pain, joints pain, chest pains.....and some times on the financial side they live paycheck to paycheck......not always because of their money management problems but because of the needs of their life and family

Absolutely! Our military should be paid much better than they are. I also believe our Police, Firefighters, first responders, EMTs, nurses, Teachers and our Military should all be the highest paid workers in our country. Our men and women who serve in the military should also have the best health care and mental health care available to them when they come home. And NO member of our military should ever be at risk of losing their home while serving our country!

I think that in the last 8 years pay has improved a Lot ofcorse my husband made rank but than E-4's are making a lot more than we did back than. That said I don't believe that any military person should have to live below the poverty line. My husband has been in 14 years and is an E-6 but we still qualify for some government assistance programs.. and junior people qualify for food stamps that is unexceptable! Our troops sacrifice too much and work LONG hours they deserve better, period. yes the hazerdous duty pay should be more. people in harms way should and do make more than the guy back in the states.

What we get paid is usually enough to live a modest lifestyle. Poor money management and the privates who try to live a lavish lifestyle just doesnt work. The health insurance sure is something to be thankful for. Many people do not have it.

However..as the wife of a soldier I believe ( he would never say this) he is worth so much more. You wont find many people who are willing to do so much work for a certain amount of pay. Spending many nights/ months away from your children is heartbreaking for most. And for the simple fact that they do all this and dont really expect to be compensated with high pay is why i do think they deserve more.

This is what me and my crew talked about alot in Iraq, soldiers should all have different pay scales. All us combat arms that put ourselves at extreme danger leaving the wire multiple times a day should get paid more than those people who deploy and think of it as a vacation with more pay and sometimes a mortar or two landing far away from them but still on the FOB.

My husband and I have two children and he works with a Specialist's pay in the Army and we are fine. And if you plan on staying in, all of your medical costs are taken care of, outside of that there is the VA. In short, no I think pay is fine. I find that most people that are struggling either got under poor financial agreements, which JAG helps them out with, or else they simply can't seem to tell when enough is enough as far as popping out children.

Every soldier and sailor should be paid more. Hell, you people pay a fortune to worthless sports stars and hollywierds actors. Why not pay more to people who actually do something. most military personel do more before breakfast than civilians do all day.

Without a doubt, military work like cooks, etc. SUCK!.

But, some people in the military have some very cushy jobs - and they get paid too much. Seriously, like those pushing paper at the desk all day long or young CO's who like to boss the hardworking enlisted guys around.

It's your world - that is how I feel as well.

Laralara. My active duty husband sits at a desk. He's the supply guy. They keep him running - and he keeps THEM running. No job in the military is unnecassary - finance (who sits at a desk) makes sure you get paid - and that when you move - you have some travel money up front.

Military benefits = food + housing + medical care + that $20,000 you're talking about.

When you add those up, that $20,000 probably ends up being more like $35,000.

Oh, and do not forget that government supplies their equipment and training. No taking out student loans like the rest of us.

I respect and appreciate our military, but I think their pay is probably just fine, and I've been military.
