Just wondering if anyone ever considered this before. Does the value of the item have any meaning?

Both are still stealing. Value means nothing, it is the act. When those who go to heaven go, they take NO EARTHLY belongings with them. This is the same reason why, though we as humans see it different, whether you murder or whether you lie, a sin is a sin, you have violated God's commandments. You still sinned. Without repentance for both, you wind up in the same boat. Don't get me wrong, God knows some are more wicked than others, but either way, if you have not repented, you are not holy to come before God. Christ Jesus is the only way to become clean through is grace and sacrifice at the cross.

No, Dimple Girl. Stealing a piece of candy does only a small harm, but stealing a car is quite serious. Legally, it is a felony.

John, in I John 5, explains the difference between damaging sin and killing sin:

16 If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, [i.e., damaging sin, like stealing candy] he should pray and God will give him life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death [i.e., killing sin, like stealing a car]. I am not saying that he should pray about that. 17 All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.

Catholics, using the full gospel, recognize this distinction. They call the minor sins "venial sins," sins that damage our relationship with God. Major sins are "mortal sins," and they break off our relationship with God. The good news is that any sins can be forgiven if we will repent and ask God for forgiveness.

Many religious people say that all sins are equal. I disagree with that. Stealing a candy bar is a sin. Murdering an innocent person is a sin. Humans instinctively know that one sin is much more serious than the other, and I believe God also knows.

Stealing a car is understandable and can be forgiven, but stealing candy from a baby is a great sin and will never be forgiven.

It doesn't matter what it is it is stealing and its all the same. The value only means something to the law.

Oh, I'm sure stealing a piece of candy would be
much, much worse. They taste better than cars.
And you don't need cars to survive; but they can
kill.
(Candy, though, might harm a person's teeth in
the "long term"--but at least it's a "peaceful" sort
of junk. And it's never intentionally killed anyone.)

No, all sin is considered equal to God. It's like saying, if i key someones car, or run over it with a truck, is it still damaging the car?

i think the sin is the same whether you steal a car or candy as long as you know its wrong then what does it matter what you steal

Either way you're a thief, but Jesus is certainly capable of judging the relative nature of the offense.

If he's not, than we're all in a lot more trouble than we might think.
