For a year deployment I got two weeks R&R plus an additional week of travel time to get to & from leave and I was supposed to get a four day pass that never happened.

As Army, you got fifteen days back in the states (now eighteen with the extended deployment). This time came out to about 22 days with travel time. Also if you were lucky, you get something called freedom rest, which is a four day pass to either the Green Zone or Qatar.

You only get R&R if your orders are above a certain number of days (I won't disclose the number). In most cases it's Army soldiers that get R&R, with some exceptions.
