In october my Friend is getting a dog and im getting a cat our idea was to go to the shelter together and adopt our pets and then go to PETCO together to buy supplies with our animals and take them in the store together.I was wondering if it would put to much stress on the animals and if it was a good idea. Also if I didnt go with her i would be able to get a kitten earlier.

You should buy the pet supplies before you get the pets. That way your home can be set up for the animals and you don't have to worry about the pet store not having what you need. Also cat don't like shopping trips. They hate the car, and seeing other animals will frighten the cat.
As for the dog.. I would wait until he was leash trained then he can be taken to the pet store. But bare in mind. Shopping trips isn't for all dogs.

Like others have already said, it's best to purchase the supplies before you get the animals. Pets really don't enjoy shopping. Being in busy places with lots of strange people can be very stressful to them.
As for your friend expecting you to wait to get your kitten until she is ready to get her dog. You don't have to agree to this. As you are planning to adopt from a pet shelter, you could tell your friend that you want to take a kitten now, so that it frees up a place ready for another animal that needs re-homing. If it's a shelter that only keeps animals a certain time before putting them to sleep, then you could explain to your friend that adopting one now, means you may literally be saving a cat's life.
Hope all goes well. Enjoy your new kitten.

A far better idea would be to get together the supplies for your pet BEFORE you pick it up. That gives you time to shop around as there are a large variety of things available for your pet, and this way you can buy what you need a little at a time. And if you haven't had one before look up what things you might need, and not just what the Pet Shop might try to sell you.
Far better too, to minimize the disruption to your new pet by not requiring it to be in a car, then around a lot of strangers while you shop, and then take it home.
Taking it straight home with everything all ready for it, is a far kinder option to your new pet.

Go shopping together before you get your pets..it will be stressful and uncomfortable for you to lug your pets around the store. Also, you don't want the pets being around a lot of other animals until they are fully vaccinated. They will be stressed enough as it is just to be placed into new surroundings in their new home..don't add more stress to that.

Dont do it together. It takes a couple weeks to get animals comfortable with each other (Petco has great books on this) which really boil down to letting them take turns in common spaces to adjust to the smell of the other animals presence.
Expecting them to spend all day together, with strange new parents and in strange places, is too much.

Cats/kittens don't appreciate shopping trips.
Really, being taken out of a shelter, then into a chaotic store will make the poor thing nuts.
I don't recommend it for the dog either, but dogs like going for car rides and meeting strangers. Not so for cats.

Get your supplies before you get the pets. When you get your cat take it straight home. It is not a good idea to take it out on shopping trips- it will do nothing but stress the cat out.

umless you are getting a puppy and a kitten, I don't know if that is such a good idea. I think they need to grow up together. u really don't know how the previous person cared for the animal or what their little quirks are untl u raise them from babies. u might want to ask an animal trainer.

I think that it sounds like a good idea providing that the animals that you guys pick out get along with other cats and dogs. It would be a bummer if you got a cat and it didn't like dogs or the dog that she picked out didn't like cats. Then it would be a lot of stress I think. But it sounds like fun.

IT DEPENDS ON IF THE DOG AND CAT HAVE BEEN AROUND OTHER DOGS AND CATS....THEY USUALLY TELL YOU IF A CAT DOESN'T LIKE DOGS OR IF A DOG ISN'T CRAZY ABOUT CATS...IT ALSO SOUNDS LIKE YOU WANT A KITTEN ANYWAY...I WOULD TELL MY FRIEND THAT I'M GETTING A KITTEN NOW BUT STILL WANT TO GO WITH HER WHEN SHE GETS HER DOG..THEN YOU CAN BOTH SHOP FOR GOODIES FOR BOTH PETS.
