i've paid my credit card every month completely since i've had it. i have excellent credit. My credit card is American Express. If they know I pay it off every month then why do they keep sending me mail for new cards for being such a good customer.

Oh yeah, I don't pay any yearly fees or anything. Do they make any money off me?

Sure they make money off of you. They make money off all of their cardholders. They charge merchants that bill your credit cards certain merchant transaction fees. These fees are usually negotiable. Am Ex charges the most, it could charge a merchant who doesn't negotiate the fee more than 4% of the transaction amount. Visa and MasterCard charge less, usually about 2-3%. They are smart, this is whay they are in business!

It all depends on what your limit is. You should already have a pretty good credit score paying it full every month. But to be honest, all your doing is making your credit improve faster, if you dont pay it full, it'll still increase your credit as long as your under that 30%. But, sadly enough, whether or not it is reported monthly, your credit report will still reflect the high balance for that period of time. So, even if you have been paying it off full every month, if you are coming close to your max every month too, it doesnt look very good. Lenders will see it as you taking risks with your card, even with you paying the balance every month. Dont believe what the other people are saying, what your balance is at the end of the month doesnt matter as much as it was when you bought that labtop, so try not to spend more than 30% off your card at any given time.

American Express makes most of their money from charging the merchants fees that accept your card. High fees!

Your ability to live within your means is a good thing, keep it up.

And why do you care how the company makes money off you as long as they continue letting you use the cards?

when you buy something at a store with a credit card the store owner submits the credit card transaction to a bank...when they send him a check they deduct 3 per cent....thats how credit cards make money....it costs the merchant 3% if he uses the credit card process.

They are not making maoney off you but you are one of the smart ones. They continually raise the credit limits on people that dont pay them off reach month hoping that they will fall into the trap. My father who is on a pension and always rings his up has been given $12,000 credit. It is ridiculous that they pray on these people.

No, they do not make any money off you, it is the finance charges they make the real money off of. Especially with the people with bad credit or no credit.

They don't. Its kind of like fishing, they throw the bait out and try to wheel you into debt and they pretty much own you. You on the other hand is the fish that nibbles at the bait giving the creditors nothing while building you fico score. Smart fish.

No. You are not making them any money. God bless you. Keep up the good work. They hope to tempt you with these other cards. Don't do it. You are a rare jewel of self control.

They make money from merchant fees. (The store gets less than the full amount of your purchase.)
