Causes of chapped lips: sun damage, wind damage, fibromyalgia, dehydration...
Help for chapped lips: Brush your teeth. Apply petroleum jelly. You may use lipstick or chapstick, but if you are already using chapstick and your lips are getting worse, then you are allergic to Lanolin. (derived from wool). If you are allergic to Lanolin/chapstick, then you will be allergic to most lipsticks which use, guess what?, Lanolin. Almay has great lipsticks and lip liners you can find in WalMart, Target, drug stores, Big Lots (sometimes). And they don't cost as much as Clinique, which you can buy at the mall. Or you can always try to find a lip balm that doesn't contain Lanolin. I don't know of any, myself.
Also, keep from licking your lips. The saliva evaporates and leaves your lips worse than before.
Drink 8-10 eight-ounce glasses of water a day. Avoid spicy foods, as they tend to aggravate the tender skin underneath the chapped part.
Hope the sites below help!

BLISTEX! The stuff's amazing. :)
Vaseline's good, but it's really greasy and won't do much to moisturize your lips, it'll just make them easier to deal with for about 10 minutes or so, lol. Blistex works GREAT!
Another tip: Take a vitamin B complex pill every day. If your lips are always chapped, it's likely you have a vitamin B deficiency, as that's a side effect of that. I had the same problem, and I started taking vitamin B and using Blistex, and I don't have the problem at all anymore.
Let me know how it works out for ya! Good luck! :)

there are spoooo many lip balms out there right now .. a lot of them are just 'for the surface' ... they make your lips feel good for a while but do not penetrate the real problem. I am only suggesting this but if your lips are seriously chapped, and over the counter sticks are not working, please contact your doctor and get an RX for something that will get rid of the dryness.

when I was on accutane for my acne, my lips got very cracked and chapped and the only thing that worked for me was blistex medicated. Aveda and Origins also had some good ones, but the blistex worked the best.

vaseline. I have the same problem. Here is what you need to do...Stop wiping away the dead skin as it grows and let it just fall off by itself...I know nasty, but trust me...let it flake off on it's own and don't wipe it away when washing your face and keep vaseline on your lips at all times. I tried everything and then someone on here suggested vaseline and i tried it and stopped peeling off the skin myself and two weeks later my lips were perfect...problem was i stopped putting vaseline on them so i'm back with my crusty lips again.
don't use carmex...it's medicated and will keep them peeling and it's addictive. smells good though.

I would suggest putting a light coat of vaseline on your lips at night for moisture, that should keep them from getting dry. During the day use a moisturizing chapstick!

I know just the right thing. At The Body Shop they sell a porduct called Lip Butter. They have different scents. The coconut one really works! You should try it.

Something with sunscreen in it. Keep it with you and reapply it frequently. Original Chapstick brand is the best, not over-sticky or greasy, longer lasting, and the containers are more durable than cheaper, or more cosmetic brands.
