I've made a lot of mistakes - I have let others down, I have betrayed those who have tried to help me, I have hurt those that have given so much for me..

I just don't understand why any creator or anyone who loved us, would let us go through pain, torment, guilt, struggle..

Why would God want bad things to happen to good people?

How can he ask us to be perfect? Perfection doesn't exist, does it? I mean seriously - how can we be perfect and meet his expectations if we have been flawed from the start?

That is the very reason why you must be born again. Jesus took your sin and corrupt nature upon Himself when He died on the cross so that by a divine exchange you could receive as a free gift His nature. This is the plan of redemption. God did not send His Son in vain. To all who receive Him, to them He gives the right to become children of God. I know. I was born again over 36 years ago. I am a completely different person than I used to be.

"But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,
made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages He might show the incomparable riches of His grace, expressed in His kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
Ephesians 2:4-10

Okay. First of all, Jesus exists, whether I believe he does or not. Period.

Him dying for me just because he loves me was pretty hard to believe, because, yeah, I wondered how anyone could love me so much. I guess I don't need to understand why; just believe, cause that's all he wants.

Now. Our creator loves us. You're absolutely right. And so, because he loves us, he allows certain things to happen to us for a purpose. Things that mold us. Things that build us. Things that hurt. It's all for our good, though it may not seem like it when we're going through it. He loves us too much not to want us to stay the same.

Bad things aren't totally bad, what makes them good or bad is how you react to the situations you face.

He doesn't ask us to be perfect, that's why Jesus died for us. He wants us to come just as we are: broken. That's when his light shines through us best. That's when he can heal.

He loves you that much.

He doesn't. JESUS done it all for you.
He knows that you're not perfect and you were born in a sinful world, that's why God sent His son JESUS.
In order for man to repent of his sins and a chance to be born again with a fresh start with Him.
Read your bible and ask God for understanding so that you can come into the full knowledge of Jesus Christ.

God bless you.

Jesus frees us from torment, unnecessary pain, guilt, struggle... etc.

Making your own mistakes is your free will. would you rather let others make your mistakes for you? I think those would hurt much worse...

Perfection exists in Christ and it is possible to eventually become like Him by His grace... if you love Him and want to partake in His perfection bad enough.
