I suspect that there is some reorganization going on with the UFC buying out the Pride organization as well as the rule changes for the new fighters to be worked out, matches to be planned, negotiated, and signed. Along with this also this type of fighting and training for it is very hard on the body and I think that the UFC would like to see if they can extend the life of it's current stable of fighters a little since many are in their 30's and one even in his mid 40's and still training and fighting. Many have become household names overnight with UFC's sudden rise and I am sure that everyone wants to stay in the spotlight and reap the benefits of this over a longer period of time. Besides this there also are television and advertising contracts that have to be worked out in advance and I think you have to remember that it will still be competing with other sports and activities outside television and pay-per-view that have to be taken into account.
