I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed last friday (a week ago tomorrow) and the last 2-3 days i have been getting an aching in my teeth at night. It feels like it is more in my molars than it is in the actual holes where the teeth were. It also feels a little better when i press on my lower gums. Does anybody have any idea what this might be? I took 2 advil about an hour ago and it still throbbing and hurts. Thanks

I have been doing salt water rinses about 6-8 times per day. I do it every time I eat something. I felt like I did a pretty good job of taking care of my mouth. The first three days I ate nothing but eggs, jello, and ice cream. THe reason I dont think it is dry sockets is because it isn't constant pain like that throughout the day. I also heard that over the counter pain medications dont get rid of the pain of dry sockets usually and advil has been working for me during the day for the most part. i will say that I have been clenching my jaw alot the last few days.

I so hope I am wrong, but you may be getting a dry socket. That means that you have lost the clot in the wound. Unless this feels WAY better Friday morn, get into the oral surgeons office so they can currettage the wound. They will numb you up and clean the wound area with an instrument.

Have you been rinsing your mouth with salt water regularly (at least 4 times a day) to stop infection?

After a week, the gums should have healed.

Sounds like you may have developed a secondary infection from poor oral hyegine following the surgery.

It could also be that the surgery has changed your "bite" and you are clenching your teeth more as a result causing the ache.

I don't remember anything like that. Keep taking the advil and maybe try tylenol instead.

There may be some nerve damage which is causing the problem. From http://aches.in/wisdomteeth.html
