I would like to know how did ancient civilizations live with such success before we had God and Jesus Christ!
this question popped into my head when I was watching the movie ((300)) yesterday!
Leonidis did not do what the oracle wanted him to do! there was no God or Gods in his life! he went with his instincts and he made the right choices and they had no Bible back then so his morals and reasoning did not reflect of that book!
there is no difference in life or lifestyle up until the point when the (christian)God factor came into play!
thats when the split came umong ppl who believe and do not believe ! - Egyptians and Greeks lived well and successful without a God ,long before that whole bit entered our life!
the Gods that they had back then I will not include as most of you probably don't care about them !

any takers on my thoughts?
(( please cont thumb down anyone ,that is just plain stupid! we all have a right to our thoughts and believes)))

That is the realization that most have us have come to. That and which god/gods/deities should we be worshiping. Seeing that there is only supposed to be one...

People have had morals for as long as they have had to live together. Or otherwise, we wouldn't be where we are today.

We survived and thrived without the Abrahamic god for thousands of years before his "existence" and we will continue to survive afterwards.

For God only knows what reasons (pun intended) He loosed the female and fertility cults onto the world long before the civilizations you are talking about; and they became totally evil. You see, they 'made up' stories that by doing such and such a dance, ritual, rite, etc - they would have good crops. Because there was no wal mart, if you and your tribe did not have a good crop; you all starved.

But, it wasn't long and the blood lust of the wicked ones became apparent and 'they' demanded children and infant sacrifices. Fast forward to past the time of the egyptians and greeks; to the aztezs, a notoriously cruel and blood thirsty group of people.

During the time of the egyptians, whom God loathed and utterly humiliated for their arrogance, the pharoah decreed that he was god...and they worked real hard to unlock the secret(s) of immortality. And the greeks, really didn't add that much; they would just get established and the dudes from the north would come south and wipe them out. Yes, they formed a government called democracy. Interestingly, with the understanding that, a democracy is unworkable during crises of the land, and therefore, one leader is to take charge. Ha.

The greeks did start philosophy, in order to make sense of the world.

But God called Abram out of the southern tip of Iraq, had him walk 3,300 miles and told him that a particular chunk of land was for him and his descendants. God also started disclosing Who He Is and What He Wants from women and men. Now, one of the things He did NOT want was for baby's to be thrown into the fires of molech. And He really wanted all of the fertility cults extinquished. He also really had an agenda against the homosexuals, esp. in the land of canaan. Which is the land that God promised Abram, btw.

Firstly the movie was a movie made to excite the public.
If it was boring there'd be no money made.

Secondly, every group, gang, tribe, society works out some rules to live by to ensure harmony within the group.

The easiest method of control is to say there's a 'god' that no one sees but by a select few who are 'initiated' and they tell the people that 'god' says people must do such-n-such or go to hell.
Works perfectly until you have people thinking about it; when people think about stuff they question it; when people question it some one has to give a satisfactory answer; all’s well-n-good when the enquirer isn't too bright but if the enquirer isn't happy with the standard answer you have descent.
Descent breeds atheists.
Slave-masters do not like rebels and try all sortsa ways to quieten them.
In the olden days they burned them – nowadays they have a legion of mindless believers who try to all manner of ways to get the atheist to ‘come back into the fold’.

Look up Psalm 73 dude...it talks about how the wicked flourish and are successful, and seems like the prideful have no problems. There may be no specific answer as to why the wicked prosper, however, the one thing we do know is their eternal destiny. They may plan well and succeed, and God may allow that, but God is ultimately in control. Also, how do you know that God was not involved in these ancient civilizations? He tells us that He has set eternity into the heart of every man. Maybe these people knew about God, and decided to try and fulfill their own selfish desires anyway. One last thought...remember 300 is a hollywood movie!

Its a Movie.
The Egyptians did,nt fare any better seeing that they were obsessed with the Afterlife. The Egyptian Empire Crumbled, so did the Roman and Greek & Persian Empires. They may have succeeded for a while, but they all just a page in History.
All of the so called " gods" of these Societies are Not Worshipped Today. Yet the God of the Bible is..

Depends on what you consider a successful civilization. As far as empires go, the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, etc., probably can be considered successful without God or Christ. However, the quality of life for the average slob was usually short-lived, inhumane, immoral, and mostly unjust. The majority did not live well at all.

What are you talking about? Ancient civilizations weren't as successful as we are in the modern world and they had gods and goddesses not just one God. Mistakes and wars happened then just as they do now. As human beings we need something to believe in something bigger then us. It's not a question of what god brings into this world its what we do with it. We all have common sense and should go with our hearts and minds. I don't know, I can't seem think at the moment.

We (everyone from Adam down to you and I) are all born with "the light of Christ" . This is felt inside each one of us, some may call it instinct, but God knew we needed direction and he would not leave us here with no direction. God has always blessed people who follow him, even when there is no written book to tell us what to do, the spirit of the holy ghost is our constant companion. This may be the second or third greatest gift God has given us, (after eternal life and free agency). So although you say they did not have God, only those who did not follow the spirit of God, knew him not.

The same way that functional non-religious people live their lives succesfully: by basing their moral judgement upon objective reasoning, empathy and tolerance.

Many religious folk also base their moral judgement upon those things, they just say it comes from God. Usually they believe it does come from God. Apart from not going to church there isn't much difference between the average Christian and the average non believer.

They did not ever live without God, he created everything.
After that, there was no peace. Different beliefs were eventually divided into kingdoms and they fought brutally. i suppose that it eventually worked out when Romans took over all the other kingdoms and therefore religions.
No, it wasn't peaceful and it never will be, not even today. Look at the war in Iraq, all the major wars for centuries, minus wars over race. The pilgrims came here because they wanted religious freedom. The Iraqi war is really on a different level, they don't like us because a fair majority of us are Christians.
