When an inmate is administered into a psychatric jail facility that's where the inmate stays(these are specific cases where the judge/prosecutor has requested this facility).
However, there are many psychosis patients within the general population under medicated treatment.

Depends on if you are able to function in normal population or if you need continuing help from doctors, etc.
If you are in a mental hospital you are civily committed I think, but I think you can also do your jail time in a hospital like that. Courts can do lots of things when it comes to sentencing so, it's probably best to talk to someone who knows actual information about the person you are referring to.

Once you go in, you will be evaluated by a staff psychiatrist. When it is determined that you are no longer a threat to yourself or others, you will slowly be brought back to general population at the jail.

When you go to another facility your time stops at the jail until you return.I worked at one before and that's how it was done.
