you realize your question makes assumptions not supported in your links.

The real question is why do you have to lie about the LDS Church?

From this ONE situation, blown WAY out of proportion by anti-Mormon press, and all of a sudden the LDS church is a haven for child molestors??

PUL-EEZE!!

First, it's' just SICK the way some people put SO much faith in some man, or men, and then blame THE CHURCH for their problems, when they could have EASILY been avoided!! For instance, why didn't that woman go to the POLICE and ask THEM if it would be alright to take that guy in? THEY don't have to worry about who's been forgiven to give you information on former child molestors.

Oh, and in that first article? There IS "no such animal" as THE MORMON CHURCH.

First, men who are pedophiles are excommunicated if they are caught molesting children.

Second, my husband was telling me about how things are changing within the church (no fanfare, tho) because of things like this law suit. For instance, he is a scout leader. If the other scout leade doesn't show up, he does NOTHING with the scouts, just take them into the multipurpose (gym) room to play some basket ball.

Same with Sunday School now, no man teaches the children or the youth without his wife present.

Did you read these articles?

Bad criminal individuals covered this up and not "the Church" and church policy is to follow the law and help the victim(s).

Child molesters are criminals and also the people covering this up are criminals.

I don't see the point of bringing up 2 cases from 9 years ago and 24 years ago.

Like has been said before me, your links do NOT support your opening statement. Child abuse IS a crime and is not justified in any manner in our faith.

Articles of Faith 1:12
We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

That should tell you that we DO consider "perpetraters (should be "perpetrators") of child abuse to be criminals".

PASTOR ART: Don't pretend to be an expert in a faith you do not now and never have practiced.

Neither of your links support your claim. I suggest you re-read them.
There is an alleged cover up of child abuse - leaders of other religions have been guilty of the same thing but that is not the same as sanctioning child abuse - just protecting one of their own.
I agree that this is a terrible thing to do but get your fact right before you make such statements!!!

OF COURSE THEY ARE CRIMINALS!!!! HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT?!? WE BELIEVE THEY WILL BE PUNISHED BY GOD TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF HIS FURY!!! HE HAS RESERVED A SPECIAL PLACE IN HELL FOR THOSE WHO PERPETRATE THESE HORRIBLE CRIMES AGAINST HIS CHILDREN AND LDS LEADERS EXCOMMUNICATE ANYONE WHO HAS BEEN PROVEN GUILTY OF THESE CRIMES (NOT JUST IN THE JUSTICE COURTS, BUT IN THEIR OWN CHURCH DISCIPLINARY COURTS). HOW DARE YOU MAKE THAT ASSUMPTION!!!

Edit- also, these days, ALL members of the church (in australia & i believe there is an equivalent worldwide) must undergo a criminal background check before being issued with a "blue card" which certifies someone as being safe to work with kids- if u are unable to obtain a blue card due to previous child related crimes or any other crimes (not sure what the criteria is) you are not permitted to work in any of the children/youth programs in the church.

Men having many wives, even as young as 14 year olds is part of their religion.

Joseph Smith had at least 33 wives when he died and eleven of them were in the age range of 14 to 20.
