The hostility between the Arabs and the Jews goes all the way back to Abraham. The Jews are descendants of Abraham’s son Isaac. The Arabs are descendants of Abraham’s son Ishmael. With Ishmael being the son of a slave woman (Genesis 16:1-16) and Isaac being the promised son who would inherit the promises to Abraham (Genesis 21:1-3), obviously there would be some animosity between the two sons. As a result of Ishmael mocking Isaac (Genesis 21:9), Sarah talked Abraham into sending Hagar and Ishmael away (Genesis 21:11-21). Likely this caused even more contempt in Ishmael’s heart towards Isaac. An angel even prophesied to Hagar that Ishmael would “live in hostility toward all his brothers” (Genesis 16:11-12).
From that beginning, Jews and Arabs have been in hostility with one another for almost 4000 years. Jews and Arabs even fight over which son of Abraham was truly the son of promise. The Old Testament says it was Isaac. The Qu'ran says it was Ishmael. The Qu'ran teaches that it was Ishmael that Abraham almost sacrificed to the Lord, not Isaac. Some Jews and Arabs today don’t even truly know why they are in hostility with each other. All they know is that they don’t like each other and that it has always been that way.

I wasn't alive way back when, lol, but as history has it, Jews and Muslims (as well as Christians) got along fine, were good neighbors, and rarely had problems. Any significant tensions only came about during the establishment of Israel. I think if it had been handled in another manner, we wouldn't have the problems we have today.
Personally I have no problems with Jews. I don't know any on a personal level, but I've had a few Jewish colleagues here and there. Even my distant cousin (by genes and mileage) is Jewish as well. In addition, not all Jews are in praise of whatever Israel does to the Palestinians (just as not all Muslims are in praise of what Palestinians do to Israelis), so it's really illogical to blame all followers for what some do for political agendas. If I did I'd be a hypocrite, lol!
In addition to Delicious' comment, even Iran has a thriving Jewish community who enjoy some freedoms more than Muslims do (eg alcohol consumption... it's illegal for Iran's Muslims).
Woodsonhannon: A couple of years ago, some got together and started a peace camp for Israeli and Palestinian children. I think that was a brilliant idea. After all, the children are our future, right? If we can get them to stop hating one another and realy desire peace between the two, and we give them the ability, they'd be unstoppable.

No, people just seem to think that--because ever since the church interpreted the Bible to mean that the Israelites descended from Isaac are the children of goodness and the Ishmaelites descended from Ishamel are the children of darkness, they have pretty much been pitting the Arabs and the Jews against each other.
However, when you get down to an individual level, it is actually much easier for a Muslim and a Jew to get along on a religious level than anything else. Judaism and Islam are more similar to each other than either of them are similar to Xtianity.

Ok here we go. It dates back to Abraham. This a land dispute over a birth right. The Jes and Muslims are half brothers. Abraham Had a son by an Egyptian slave. The son was named Ishmael, He is the father of Islam. He was not of pure blood but was the first born son. The first born son is suppose to get the inheritance. Then Abraham had a second son Isaac who was from his wife and was pure blood. Isaacs mom Sarah did not like Ishmael and convinced Abraham to kick him and his mother out into the desert. Now Isaac inherited all the land. Isaac is the father of the Jews and Ishmael is the father of the Muslims. the is basically siplified so I hope it makes sense.

It honestly started way back, with the births of Ishmael and Isaac, and historically has always being a problem. You will have to read up on history here, and read Genisis Chapter 15 through to 18. There is not enough room to go into it all.
But at least it is a sensible question 10 points.

It is the Muslims who don't like the Jews. You don't see Jews putting bombs on themselves blowing innocent people do you? Radical Muslims are still firing off rockets into Jewish communities in Israel. They are still using their own children as human shields. They are still harassing Jews around the world. Heck, they even blow up their own people.
It has always been this way. Jews always wanted peace, it is the Muslims that don't. The Jewish people of Israel have the right to defend themselves. It is just that Israel needs a better leader than Mr. Olmert. Don't you know that even the Iranian President said that he would like Israel off the maps, anotherwards, he would like Israel to be destroyed. He doesn't like America, Christian, and Jews. Another Hitler? Yes. There will never be peace if the Arabs are not willing to live peacefully with Jews, there will never be a Arab state in Israel.

It is historical between the sons of Abraham. His son Ishmael was born by him and an Egyptian slave girl to his wife Sarah, who was barren. God had promised them a son, but it hadn't happened and Sarah decided (which was perfectly legal then) to allow her slave girl to bare Abraham a son so he would have a legitimate heir. He took the idea and went with it and the slave girl, Hagar had a son named Ishmael. Then when Ishmael was about aged 13, God visited Abraham and Sarah again and told them they would have a son together in their old age and you can read the entire story in Genesis chapters 12 on through chapter 18 and get the story straight and then you will know without hearsay; then after 18, read chapter 21 for sure and then read chapter 22 to learn the real story of how God had His prophetic action to bring Jesus into the Earth and offer Him for the sins of the World; especially Gen. 22: 1- 18 and take note of verse 16.."thine only son" (the one God chose and promised). Then read in the New Testament in the book of Hebrews chapter 11: verses 8 - 11; then verses 17 - 22. This is the story of the shunned first-born by the slave girl and born "of the flesh" for the 2nd son born of promise and by the righteous and free wife of covenant. Darkness HATES the light, what do they have in common. It is totally jealousy. Ishmael's descendants were blessed and have a heritage, but NOT with the Son of Promise/or Covenant.., the seed that became the son of Abraham to Isaac, down to Jacob and Esau; Jacob being the one chosen by God (also the 2nd twin), and Jacob then had 12 sons and his name was changed from Jacob to Israel and his son's families became mighty tribes of Israel. They ARE the children of Israel..., they ARE God's chosen people through which God gave the first written law (10 Commandments) and through this lineage God chose to send His only begotten Son, the promised Messiah and/or Christ because of the obedience and faith of Abraham. In the book of Galatians we are told that all those "who are of faith are the children of Abraham".
It is a family fued that began with jealousy between a Sarah's slave girl and her child and Sarah. Abraham obeyed God even in this situation that he and Sarah had devised and sort of brought Hagar into, but it was NOT God's plan. It is clear that God ONLY honors His plan. The Ishmaelites are not Palestinians, there is actually no such people. They adopted that name. They were run out of several areas and their entire "case" is bogus. They have always been terrorists with their leaders being terrorists.
Now you know why they want Israel.., God gave it to Abraham and his seed FOREVER and "his seed" were through Isaac and Jacob as the Holy Scripture says! Go back and read Genesis 13: 14-15; Genesis 15: 16-21. Then again: Genesis 17: 15-21. That is all the matter.

Most of their difficulties go back to the early days of Islam.
When Muhammad fled Mecca and went to Medina the pagans of Saudi Arabia were intent on wiping the Muslims out.
Some of the pagans enlisted the aid of the Jews in Medina.
Some of the Jews were involved in harassing the Muslims.
Nowadays many Muslims are angry at the state of Israel because many Muslims had to give up Palestine.

Because both of them are manipulated by their religion´s chiefs and governments.
The Muslims who plan and/or execute terrorist acts are wrong.
But Israel as a nation concept is wrong either. After World War II ONU decided to found Israel in a place where muslims were already living. It was pretty obivous that they´d be pissed off because they were being kicked out of their homes with no future perspectives.
In some way I can understand both parts but I strongly disagree with everyone who decides to fix things violently. I think that they should both try to live together in peace =)
