Explain "turned from you". If they turned from me then they wouldn't hear me no matter what I said. But I would always love them no matter what.

Do you somehow think that being a Christian implies a person to be a cruel, mean parent? My children are loved unconditionally by me and my wife.
I would use the story of the Prodigal Son as an example of unconditional love that God has for us as well as what a parent has for their children. That son took the money and ran - out into a life of "riotous living". His father never banished him or threw him out. As a matter of fact, when the boy came to his senses and returned home, a party was thrown in his honor. That is unconditional love.
There may be one or two unwise parents who would do as you suggest, but most of us love our children, even if they turn completely away.

Well I am a Universalist Christian, therefore I believe all souls will reconcile with GOD.
If my child turned from Christianity I would know that that is just were their life has taken them. Will I still meet them in the afterlife. Absolutely. I find it so sad that some Christians who have not seen the light a tormented by this fact. Some mother's have even killed their children because of this thinking they are "saving" them.
So for me, my door would always be opened. just like God's will for his children on earth who have not come to believe in him...yet!

My responsibility as a parent is not to "make" my child love me. That is part of free-will. Which is exactly the way God is with us. However, I do demand that my son respect me. If he were to turn from me, yes, my door would always be open. I would not want God to close His door just because I stray....

Do you mean if my child didn't believe the same faith as me?
It is their God-given right to believe what they want. Even though I would be sad about it, the only thing I would really ask of them in trust is to leave the spiritual teaching of potential younger siblings up to their father and I at least until their siblings are of a certain age...and to be respectful of family traditions during holidays.

Atheists... if YOUR child turned from YOU, would YOU banish THEM forever? And don't say it would never happen... just look at that wonderful, world-renowned atheist, Margaret Murray O'Hair.
You say, then why would God banish His children? God does NOT BANISH HIS CHILDREN!!!!
It's just the other way around... God's children are rejecting HIM, not HE rejecting THEM!!! WHEN WILL YOU FOLKS GET THIS CONCEPT THROUGH YOUR HEADS?????
We keep repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating...
GET the idea???????? God's door IS open to you... it is up to YOU to walk IN and ACCEPT that invitation! And He DOES Always LOVE you. He WANTS you to BE WITH Him. He does not BANISH you... it is YOU who BANISHES YOURSELF FROM HIM!!!
Have a blessed day!

He doesn't he has left an open door...his name is Jesus...but God just like an earthly parent can not and will not force his children to return, it is up to the child to want to return.

The perfect answer is in the book of Luke 15:11-32 - the parable of the prodigal son. Your question parallels our relationship with God. Though we turn our backs on Him, He is ever faithful, waiting for us to return. That is the relationship I now have with my son. And i will never stop loving him because God has never stopped loving me.

my sister, brother and i were all raised under the same roof. we were all raised in a christian home. my brother made the choice to follow the world. he's been in and out of trouble since i could remember. he's 30 now. my parents grew tired of his foolishness but they will never banish their son. they don't have to put up with his crap...but their love from him grows stronger everyday.
please keep him in your prayers.
God is not the one who turns His back. it's us who turns their back to God. like a child disobeys their parent.

I have 3 grown sons, and they all at one time or another have turned....... my door has always been open..... but, there are things I will NOT tolerate in my home..... they are beginning to come to terms with that..... I have TOLD them each to leave at certain points, sent them off with the words * I love you* ringing in their ears...... letting them go was hard, but they are grown men now, and MUST find their own paths and come to grips with the choices they make..... go in peace...... God bless
