My dog got scared and ran backwards and my daughter was standing right behind my dog and was thrown on the floor and hit her head really hard. She cried for a while, I feel no bumps, she reconigzes things, she's talking fine, she's walking fine. I won't let her go to sleep for an hour. I'm just paranoid right now and I need to know what everyone else thinks.

You're doing great.
If she complains of:
nausea
blurred vision
dizziness
feeling unsteady
memory loss
confusion
forgetfullness
weakness in one arm or leg
unequal pupils
THEN go to the ER.

How old is she? Smaller children are built to withstand head bumps and falls. My two year old has hit his head I don't know how many times! He's a bit clumsy. I agree you should not let her go to sleep for a while, just in case. Personally, I think she will be okay, but it is very scary since you can't see what's going on internally. To avoid a possibly unnecessary visit to the ER I would first call them, or a nurse of some kind, and see what they think. It would at least ease your mind.

I think she'll probably be fine. But to check, get a flashlight and shine it in her eyes. If her pupils get smaller, that's good. If they DON'T and they stay big (and you'll be able to tell the difference... they're supposed to get very small), she might have a concussion, and then you should probably bring her to the hospital and have her checked. Same with if she starts throwing up or complaining of a bad headache (beyond a bruise)... or says her vision is funny. All are signs to maybe check it out further.

Does your pediatrician have an after hours number? You could always call that. My 2 year old had another boy who was holding a guitar fall on him and the neck of the guitar went into my son's head. We called the after hours' number and found out what they recommended (which was ice, and checking to make sure he would move when touched while he slept). No visit to the dr. needed and it saved the hassle of an ER visit.

Shes probably o.k. as long as she is acting fine. My daughter had a small t.v. fall on her head when she was 3 .. and she cried.. got a bump on her forehead .. and then told me she was sleepy.. I got freaked out and took her to the doctors.. turned out she was absolutely fine! To make matters worse.. it was the morning of Mother's Day.. Lovely way to spend my day!!

How old is she?

I would watch her and put some ice on the back of her head, but just watching her will be enough for now.

If you're really worried you can take her in, and don't be surprised if she has a mild concussion tonight/tomorrow.

Just keep an eye on her like you are doing, if she starts acting a little funny such as nasueous or something like that then get her to a doctor or somewhere. Sounds to me like she will be ok and you are keeping a good eye on her. Kids are pretty resilient. Good Luck!

It depends How old is you're daughter is, She might still be young enough that her skull is very fragile.

Was it tile or carpet or wood. If it was carpet she'll be ok but i don't know about wood or tile

I think she's fine but if you want you could see a doctor

I'm sure your daughter will be fine. This will be just the beginning of the bumps and bruises that our little ones get. I hate to say get used to it...but, they sure are clumsy when they're little! Of course, this wasn't her fault, but...hey, how can ya blame the darn dog!!!
