oatmeal is very high in fiber and in a balanced diet is very good for you. It does not contain protien, it does contain carbohydrates, fiber and several minerals that are good in a balanced diet. But like anything else, if you eat too much, it will cause weight gain. Have a half cup (cooked) every morning for breakfast, and you will be regular, you will help to control your cholesterol, and you won't get hungry half way thru the morning.

It is healthy for you as long as you avoid the flavored kinds because they are sometimes high in sugar. As long as you stick to the plain quick oats and add your own sugar, a limted amount of butter, and do not exceed the portion size you'll be fine.
Most foods don't make you fat it's usually the portion size and the other foods that you combine with them that do.
