Could have been the fact that the times of the Inquisition and Crusades were extremely violent times, and these are not. Those were the times that druids had a tendency to sacrifice humans too, but nobody seems to hold that against them forever, they don't seem to hold the Italians at fault for eternity for the people they killed for sport in the arenas either, but then those bits of history wouldn't go well with bashing christianity, would it? We get at least one hatemonger or basher a day with this very tired old question, and it doesn't get any more relevant. So in answer to this repetitve bashing question, its probably because in those times people were instructed what the word of God was from the priests as bibles weren't numerous and the majority of people couldn't read anyway, so the priests were at fault and since people today are quite literate we understand the commandment, "though shalt not murder".

with true there is false with false there is true. The key is to be educated not by others but by yourself don't just take someone else's words as truth.

Lola-not all Islamics tortured and kill anyone who doesn't agree with them

Andre-the bible is still not in a language everyone can understand it still is an issue if you read the newer text they take liberity with the wording making for misinterpurting the bible that apon latter translation will misinterpurt it again. remember the part that says add not one word take not one out have you ever read the book of ruth it was taken out along ago because it was written by a woman.

bunnies-have you read the Bible correctly or are YOU just spouting off to gain the applause of the weak minds? you posted the same time as DuckPHup and he wrote a long history telling me that you read little of his post then blasted him now imagine this bbs was a gun would you have been so quick?

To answer the real question the Christians of today do not lack the power and we have no guarantees they will not use it. they have the political power this very moment until feb of 2009 they just need a reason "a weapon of mass destruction" to look for and the witch hunt will start. As my friend, a Cuban, can attest to we were flying from Chicago and he was flagged as a threat because he to them looks Iranian dark skin, blue eyes, dark hair.

Once again we get down to: the Crusades were in defense of Christians that were attacked by Muslims. You see, the Muslim "holy" war (the Jihad) had taken land from a Christian Empire (Byzantium). Actually, the Muslim "holy" war had taken place against the Christians a full five hundred years before the Crusades!
And as for the Inquisition, well, the Bible did not endorse that.
What it all gets down to is, men do evil things, not the Bible.
You said that our beliefs haven't changed since the time of the Crusades. Wrong again. Ever hear of the Amish? Ever hear of the Baptists? Ever hear of the Mormons? Their beliefs are very different from that of the Catholic Church.
You also said that there is the possibility that the Christians aren't resurrecting the Inquisition because we lack the power.
I must disagree with you on this as well. In Russia and the U.S.A. most people are Christians, including the men and women that run the governments. Mind you, those are the two greatest powers on earth. And in many, many other countries the population is mostly Christian. So, if there was a global Christian conspiracy against all others, then we could easily do it now. Actually, if we were going to, the best strategy would be to do it now.

In response to the response you made to dze.
It wouldn't be easy, yes. But did she ever say it wouldn't be? Did the brave men and women in the French Resistance think it would be easy to hinder the Nazis? No, but they did it anyway.

In response to DuckPhup.
Maybe you could use a little education yourself...
She said the Roman Catholic Church was to blame for the INQUISITION! Not for something a Roman Emperor had done hundreds of years before the Inquisition.

there's no need to worry as long as the u.s. resists becoming a theocracy. if that happens, head for the hills.

the crusades were a turf war. the muslims invaded the remains of the eastern empire. yes, the crusades were ugly, but i think we'll all be right there with france in sitting out that war.

the inquisition and reformation were more about political control than religion, tho religion served them quite well.

that leaves the genocide of pagans in the 4th and 5th centuries and colonialism to worry about. the pagans have the benefit of a much more enlightened world, so that means space aliens as the only group that needs to be afraid.

You have to be there to understand I believe but lets just say do all Americans believe in the war? Should all Americans be labled as Bush lovers? That's what the rest of the world thinks that all Americans believe like Bush.
Was the Crusades really about spreading the word of God or more like "Weapons of Mass Destruction" just a cover to land grab?
You got to dig a little deeper before start forming ideas on the hear-say

Yet again someone decides the actions of humans with an agenda reflects the teachings of the faith they say they adhere to.

People who are in the Christian faith are just as susceptible to corruption and greed as those outside the faith. That doesn't mean that the Christian faith has ever condoned such actions, it just means there were weak people who gave into temptation to do wrong.

I also see that the Catholic bashers are out again. PLEASE people do some independant research, go and read things NOT written by people who you know are already anti-Catholic. The Catholic faith is COMPLETELY Christian, go to a Catholic Church service and you will see this!

You have a very great lack of understanding of The True Christian Faith... such ignorance is not at all uncommon on this forum or in the world for that matter... I is, and always has been, since the Commissioning of The Church. and The Teaching of Jesus The Christ, against The Word and Will of God for any of The Church to do as you describe.... The Word of God may not be spread at the point of the sword... look at the history of what actulay has happened to ALL who have tried to do that...falsely in God's Name... they, the crusaders and the inquisitiors, and others of like evil, have ended up losing and being punished by God.

As to The Bible of The True Christian Faith...It does not condone such actions on the part of those of The Church.

Christianity and Judaism have had their reformations. They oppose killing and have adopted translations to support that adoption. I do not think this question is asked in good faith...you are a troll. However this question is appropriate for mulims in this point in time ..they have not had their reformation yet, the kill each other every day, think what they would if they had the power the Christians have.

To begin with you are not speaking of Christians, but of Catholics. There is a big difference between the two. I know, Catholicism calls itself a Christian religion, but its teachings are in opposition to the Bible. The Catholic religion is the one that tortured and killed anyone who didn't agree with it, much the same way the Islamics do today. And please don't bring the Bible into this argument. God does not tell anyone to kill anyone who doesn't agree with them. You need to read the Bible before you make such generalized statements that aren't supported by facts.

The crusades had nothing to do with defending christians - it was a way to keep unruly knights and vassals from causing problems in western europe. In fact, the crusaders murdered and pillaged their fellow eastern christians (they sacked constantinople, the capital of the eastern christianity, and Rome's main rival).

But don't take my word for it. Go to your local library.
