My mother hates my C&C cage and says that it's way to big and that they need to be put into pet store cages. I've tried explaining that a 2X4 c&c is the perfect size for my two male pigs but she totally disagrees. So I was wondering if anyone knows about plastic kiddie pools being good for housing guinea pigs. I heard about that somewhere and maybe I can convince her to use that instead. If I can't does anyone have any good reccomendations for an approriate sized pet store cage for 2 male piggies. Thank you in advance.

It's not that I cannot provide for them, it's just that we cannot get the coroplast, so technically it's a C cage, and because it has no coroplast, we have a make shift bottom of cardboard, covered with a tarp, then newspaper with fleece on top of that, which is why she hates it. Our car is much to small to fit coroplast in, and the guy who found a way to fit it, wanted to charge us 45$$ for coroplast.

Also, she hates the fleece, so she wants something I can put carefresh into, she hates waking up and seeing the poop. Also, they are very well taken care of, an hour of floor time each day, fresh veggies rich in vitamin c, unlimited timothy hay, and toys. I also understand that kiddie pool sides aren't tall enough and I was going to add some additional height to the sides using my C&C grids and cable ties. So if you have any suggestions besides don't get rid of your C&C cage, or if you know of a way to fit a full sheet of coroplast into a VERY small car, besides scoring, because he won't do it, or let us do it in his store. So don't tell me to put them up for adoption(that's how I got them, they are both blind and can barely see), because they are very well loved and taken care of, I just need some other large enough cage options.

Your guinea pigs really need a C&C cage, in many ways these are better. In regards to kiddy pools, I have heard many stories about people using them for floor time, these people have said that the walls are not high enough and that their piggers have jumped out. You can get some really big kiddy pools which would almost be bigger than some C&C cages, therefore I see no logic in switching to a kiddy pool.

ETA:
Correct, you do not "need" a C&C cage, you "need" to get a cage big enough for 2 boars which would mean a cage 30"x50", I would be laughing if you could find a pet store cage that big. All I am saying is that, if you can not get a big enough cage that meets the requirements on guineapigcages.com then you need to consider surrendering them.

If you can find a kiddy pool that equals that (10.5sq ft), then use it. But if you can find a kiddy pool that is that big, then why not just use a C&C cage.

Instead of coroplast you can use linoleum, this can be rolled up and therefore should fit in your car. I believe you guys took what I was trying to say all wrong.

ETA:
Here is a link talking about using linoleum as an alternative to coroplast, you have to scroll down to the very bottom:

I believe that your guinea pigs are very well looked after, I never said they were not. I just said, that you need to house them appropriatley, and I can not understand why, you would want to change to a kiddy pool which would have to be as big as your C&C cage, when you said in your question that size was an issue.

Like I said above, consider linoleum, personally it would be far easier, and would take up less space to have a rectangular C&C cage compared to a circular kiddy pool.

Well, I live in England, so I couldn't find coroplast in my area. What I did was I pulled up the fleece I use to make flaps so that they can't poke their heads through, and heavily padded the bottom with towels so that it would leak to the floor. An alternative, you can get a 4 x 8 sized piece of coroplast, roll up the long side, and stick it in the backseat.

Don't get a petstore cage. Do all you can to avoid it.

If you have to do a kiddiepool cage, make sure you add height to it. And about the fleece, just buy a really dark color or black instead.

I'm sorry, but your mother sounds crazy. Does she hate everything about it?

If you want to save tons of money and super happy piggies then build a C&C cage. If you want a not so happy guinea pig and pay close to or over a hundred dollars for a too small cage then go buy one from the pet store. Even the "big" pet store cages aren't big enough. In my experience guinea pigs are much happier with larger spaces found in c&c cages, plus you can make them fit into specific spaces in your home!

I wouldn't reccomend using a kiddie pool, they could easily jump out. I've never made a C&C cage before although I probably will sometime in the future. For the two males that shared a cage we got a big sized "rabbit" cage from a brand called Super Pet, it was the starter kit though which was the downside to it but it was a decent size for the two of them.

I have a C&C cage and its wonderful. Your plan works too but instead of fleece i recommend old newspapers for lining your cage with, and then putting hay and cedar chips on top. Make sure your cage is plenty big and has LOTS of airholes.

I have two males and they get along just fine so dont worry :)

They do not "need" a C&C cage, but they are nice cages. Any cage made for guinea pigs is fine--plastic bottom, wire sides. If it is smaller than a C&C, then just make sure your pigs have room to exercise outside the cage every day where they can be safe. I used a kiddie pool for 6 females and it worked great! You just have to have high enough sides so they can't jump out, and you have to be able to hang up the water bottle. Don't give up your pigs just because you can't build a C&C--that's ridiculous.

Never used a kiddie pool. As long as you don't have dogs it might work, but make sure it can't hop out. My pigs NEVER EVER jump unless they are in water, then they can jump like 3 feet!!! But, it would probably work. a foot or two high is probably high enough, unless your pigs are crazy...
Good luck! I have never had a CandC cage, they sounded too boring...

The best REALLY is the CandC cages. NOT kiddie pools. If youre worried, ask someone at Petco, or another local petstore.

This is what my local pet store told me to use for pig. Try it.

whoa! ........... 2 males living in the same cage.............. not a good idea as males fight sometimes to the death of one of them.

We had females as well and that made the situation worse.

I feel you need two cages...
