I want to move from Australia to Los Angeles to live and work for a year. I have been told by people that Glendale is a safe and relatively cheap place to live. Is their any jobs that people can reccomend around that area? I also require accomidation, and a vehicle. How much would all of this cost for a year and how much income could i expect from an average job? Also, what is a cheap, reliable car that is easy on fuel?

If you check http://www.craigslist.com and click on the "Los Angeles" section, you will find apartments, cars for sale and lease, jobs of all types and everything else you can imagine or wouldn't even think of asking.
When looking for a suitable job which will not be miles and miles away, you can try looking in "San Fernando Valley" listings which will keep you basically in the Glendale area. Cities of Burbank, North Hollywood, Studio City and Sherman Oaks are fine westard' if you see listings for Van Nuys, Panorama City, Reseda, Canoga Park, West Hills, Chatsworth, Northridge and Encino, you are getting a bit out of the area and traffic could get in a snarl.
Happy hunting!

1. If you don't have a work visa, don't bother.

2. Inexpensive is definitely a relative term in LA. Glendale is one of your better options. Rents are exorbitant. Try to find a roommate unless you don't mind living in a cracker box.

3. You will definitely need a car. Don't try to do LA without one.

4. Income depends on skills. Don't think you can move here, deliver pizza and be able to support yourself.

Not much is cheap anywhere in Los Angeles. Rent at least $1,000 + per month, gas is now almost $3.00 per gallon, jobs...depends on you. A job flipping burgers or an Engineer? go to: www.seemyla.com
