Ok I'm with you on the report. But thumbs down is part of the system that works. It isn't hurting anything and is a way to express a view point. If thumbs down should cost then so should thumbs up. Honestly if a thumbs down hurts your feelings then there are larger issues at hand.

It's all a part of Yahoo Answers. It's going to happen regardless if it costs people points or not. There are people out there that will thumbs down you for no legitimate reason, some just because the are jealous, and like messing with people and no other reason. Reporting abuse is pretty much a joke too. I have NEVER gotten any response or follow up from Yahoo on ANY abuse I have ever reported. Just grin and bear it. Make up your mind that this forum is not about the points you get or don't get, it's about straight answers that you give to try and help people., on subjects you like to share.Nothing more, nothing less.....Personally, I almost never thumb down anyone. Regardless ...BUT..It would be REAL interesting if you could see WHO was thumbing you down.....lol

The abuse button thing isn't a bad idea. I disagree with the thumbs down button though. I agree that people use it too much, but there are also plenty of legitimate reasons to thumbs down an answer, like when someone posts an answer that's unbelievably long and you want it to go away. I think that's best left how it is.

Considering that yahoo does not fairly enforce violations of the stated community standards, they should remove that feature altogether.
By the way, the thumbs down feature probably keeps a lot of people from getting reported, because it hides their response.

What if they made it so that the nerds, racists and idiots that deserve the thumbs down got fifty points deducted. What if those reported for violation and then suspended were permanently barred from here. What a far better place YA would be!!!

The 2 points for abuse would never happen as they encourage the reporting, however, if they showed the avatar who did the thumbs down.....

I couldn't care less about the thumbs down, but they need to weigh the report based on how many times you use it. If you do it all the time, they just should disregard any that the user makes.

Once I spent twenty minutes giving "Fireball226" thumbs down... for every answer she gave, even in topics I didn't give a crap about, or even if I thought the answer was half-assed good... just because I think she's a nitwit.
Is that petty, or what???
I already know the answer to that.

I've seen people targeted time and time again and many of the Q&As are not violation of the Yahoo Community Guidelines.
Recently many of the people getting targeted simply answered a troll's offensive question and the Troll Patrol decided to submit violation notices. I won't state my source, but I know of several people who have lost accounts simply because others won't agree with them.

I think so. That is a good idea. However, the one and only time I flamed someone, it was worth the points I lost. I'm still very proud of the violation notice.
