there is a band adjustment for manual 1st gear and reverse. first gear will still work normallywithout the band. to tell if the band works, drive it and let off the gas, drop it in manual 1st, and if it downshifts its working. normal 1st gear uses the overunning clutch, not the l/r band. the band has to come on for engine braking for safety reasons mandated by the ntsb. so the band could be not working and still have 1st gear. i had a plow truck come in this winter that broke the servo for the band, lost reverse, and drove the truck in without the band working, all forward gears ok. pretty invovled stuff, i would recommend a good trans shop or dealer.

In my transmission repair manual there are listed 10 reasons why you have no reverse. There is no reason given that is exclusive to the problem. In other words, if a certain condition, for example, low hydraulic pressure caused it, it would not drive in any gear.
The low-reverse band adjustment has also been mentioned, but if it were at fault, you would not have low gear.
In all the causes listed, anything that could keep it from backing up will keep it from going forward.
Looks like a teardown is called for to pinpoint a scenario that was not anticipated when the book was written.

check the fluid in it and make sure its on the full mark,if everything looks alright, there's not much you can do for it,take it by a good transmission shop, and let them drive it,,get a hands on opinion about it,there might be something they can do for it,it sounds like the problem is in the valve body or a shift solenoid, but have them check it,dodge transmissions have changed a lot over the years,i don't even like working on the newer ones, good luck with it.

Dodges trans are very picky, first check the fluid with it running in park, if the fluid is full then go get the trans fluid changed and see if that fixes it. I had a Durango that wouldnt shift, got the trans flushed and it was perfect after that, like a new trans.

Sounds like a transmission problem, I would have it looked at by a mechanic, its most likely something internal to the transmission, that only a qualified person can handle.

it could be out of adjustment but its not something you could fix yourself. make sure the trans fuid is up to level as well, and make sure you check the fluid with the transmission in neutral.

There's no adjustments on automatic transmissions. You need to rebuilt your transmission
