Tony has several service contracts with Chevrolet. These range from personal endorsements to his personal raceteams.
So unless Coach can make some arrangements Tony could be history at Joe Gibbs Racing.

I agree with Pickled Salmon all the way! Toyota is in it's first year with NASCAR, and it seems like so many of you think they're driving YUGO's or something! I'm not an auto maker fan, I'm an auto racing fan. If Gibbs goes to Toyota, they will win with Toyota, no doubt about it. Tony has a contract that is too good to pass up for a reason like that. After all, Tony didn't always drive Chevy's, he started in the series with a Pontiac!

UPDATE: J.D. Gibbs would like to sign #20-Tony Stewart to an extension that will keep the two-time Nextel Cup champion at Joe Gibbs Racing at least through 2011. Stewart's contract at JGR runs through 2009. But with a talented stable of young talent in the developmental pool and Stewart joking about retirement several times this season, the president of JGR would like to find out just what his marquee driver wants. "Hey, we want Tony to be here for a long time,'' Gibbs said before Sunday's race at Infineon Raceway. "If he said at the end of '09 I'm done, officially done, hey, we understand that. Let's go get a plan. The reality is, I think he wants to go [on]. How long does he want to go? I want all of those guys on the same page.'' Gibbs denied reports that he has a deal to leave General Motors for Toyota. "I've got to be honest,'' he said. "That's just not true. That's speculation. We're sitting down with the GM guys [in a few weeks]. We've had conversations with them. I don't think any GM team has signed a deal yet. That was kind of frustrating.'' JGR has been with GM for 16 seasons between Pontiac and Chevrolet. While Gibbs plans to discuss a new deal, he never ruled out talking to Toyota. Gibbs also didn't rule out talking to driver Kyle Busch, who became a free agent when it was announced Dale Earnhardt Jr. would replace him at Hendrick Motorsports next season.(ESPN.com)(6-25-2007)

Why wouldn't he? Toyota isn't going to be a 2nd class car forever. Just because its Toyota's first year in NASCAR doesn't mean they don't know how to race a car. Toyota has TONS of experience in other types of auto racing. Its only a matter of time before they start churning out wins. Gibbs goes to Toyota with better drivers than other Toyota teams. Gibbs is just the team Toyota needs to start pushing them forward. Wouldn't you want to be on a newer team, and be a part of what helps bring them to the front? Smoke isn't dumb, he knows what he'll be a part of.

I can't see Tony wanting to waste the last few years of his career in a car that wont be competitive. I hope if Gibbs is dumb enough to switch that Tony is smart enough to leave.

Gibbs will not switch. Although Toyota would be a good choice. It is not going to happen. Thats why it's called silly season.

I think he will stay with Gibbs. When they put some winning drivers such as the Gibbs drivers in the Toyotas, they will have a lot better finishes than they have had this year.

Tony will only stick with Joe Gibbs as long as Home Depot has acontract with JGR. The maufacturer is only a vehicle to tony. He does what is best for hemself and no one else.

Toyota is at least 3 years from championship material no matter what team they go with. How old is Tony, 35,36,37, somewhere in there I think. I don't see him wasting that much time to get back to contending for championships.

No way are they going to Toyota, just trying to squeeze more money out of GM. They've had too much success with Chevy to go to an unproven manufacturer. Maybe they'll switch in a few years, but not when they've got it so good already.
