Should I just go with a GMC plug made specifically for my truck or are there better performing plugs out there that I could use? Need to add that I have an extended warranty from AAA and wonder if using anything other that GM plugs would void the warranty if something happened. Thanks in advance.

GM charges way too much for their plugs and thats why they want you to buy only theirs. I have used both autolite and champion in this same engine for years(i change them every few months) with no problems, just keep the old GM ones and put them back in if you ever have the truck inspected

Yes stay with the factory part number plugs. I spoke to a ASE GMC mechanic once about my 5.7L Vortec, he said to use the exact factory plugs, because that was the spark plugs heat range that the engine was designed for.

I made the mistake of going to the dealer for the plugs the first and last time. I paid way to much. You can get those same Original Equipment plugs at any auto parts store, Just make sure you get the part number out of the owners manual, I would say to look at the plugs installed now, but somebody might have put something else in there.

I've Changed the plugs twice now, it probably didnt need the second time, but I wanted piece of mind for the family. Have had descent fuel mileage and operation with them.

plugs are easy to change out, just make sure you dont over torque the plug, remember hand tighten, then go slightly more with the ratchet, until you cant loosen the plug by hand. also make sure you are straight on the plug and not canted or you will crack the ceramic insulator, and you wont notice it until there is a humid or rainy day, and the engine misses because the spark slips through that crack in the ceramic, and doesnt make it into the combustion chamber.

You can use any type of plug you want. Now that I've said that, I would stick to the GM or AC Delco type plugs. These are platinum tipped plugs that usually don't require replacement for around a hundred thousand kilometers at least. If you use something else, make sure you get a quality one and stay with the platinum tipped stuff.

Really any double platinum plug will do good. I prefer Champion and these old timers at Autozone talked me into trying the new Iridium Autolights in my 06 Explorer.... so far the Autolights are pretty good. I get 20 mpg highway and the plugs have a 5 yr 100K warranty even though I highly doubt any plug made will ever last half of that. Just get some good Platinums.

As long as they are Platinum, you will be ok. Stay away from gimmicky plugs that brag about huge power gains. Stick with what you have for the best reliability. GMC recommends changing their plugs after 100,000 miles, so they are pretty confident in them!

a gm(ac delco) plug works best, gaped correctly, these motors are designed with this plug height in mind, i have a 1995 with over 225000 miles on it and it just doesn't like autolite or champion plugs but i put delco in it and it runs great

using anything but ac delo platinum plugs your asking for problems that is what us gm techs use and you dont have to buy them from dealer other places do have them price wise yes dealers are high but ive been buying somewhere else for over 20 years and if you are looking for someone to put them in dealers are worth the price you can bring your own parts in i wouldnt leave just anybody put them in you wouldnt believe how many back yard mechanics there are and all they can do is screw it up and give more bussiness to us

theres always better parts than factory as far as the warranty make sure you call them theyre the only ones who will tell you if it voids the warranty, but i can almost guarantee it wont.
