Ok...without debating the QUALITY of the food, can someone name the chemical that they put in the food that "kills dogs", or "makes they sick"???? I am sick of hearing that whenever someone asks about the brand.
If you cannot name the "chemical that they add that kills dogs"...why are you saying it??? Did you just hear it someplace and keep vomiting that tidbit whenever you can???

During the pet food recalls of late, I ams DRY was NOT included at all. Many brands were, and the canned was, but not the dry. So where are the deadly chemicals??? Where is the "deadly E.Coli????????

Iams was also NOT involved in the recall that involved the Diamond foods and the toxins in that food.
So, since there are so many blaming these recalls on Iams and that food was not involved, where are you getting you WRONG information???

If they were putting ANTIFREEZE in it, dogs would be dying by the MILLIONS!!! A TINY bit is all that is required to kill a dog......I think we would all have heard about that, don't ya think?
People need to THINK for themselves and stop spitting out the propaganda that they hear!!!!!

I have been feeding ti for years also!! Funny...no dead dogs from it either. I have gotten many remarks in the ring from judges commenting on the nice coats and muscle tone though.
Must be the E. Coli and Ethoxyquin though!!!!!!!

I think almost all dry foods contain vegetable matter. Corn, brown rice, white rice....Canidae contain Alfalfa meal. Why should dogs eat that???? They are not alfalfa-vores either.
And if the Ethoxyqiun is in fish...it will be in MOST dry dog foods without having it listed also!!!!!!!

Do people realize that dogs live long and healthy lives on TOTAL CRAP!! We have Dad's Econo-mets where I live and that is about as cheap and crappy as you can get......but tons of dogs eat it and actually LIVE!! Imagine that.
And so far...NO ONE has ANY evidence that Iams is killing dogs with the POISON food!!!
I feed Iams to the cats too!!!!! LMFAO!
I have 5 cats over 15 that have eaten it all their lives!!!!

They do not contain BHT or BHA. They say how it is preserved...mixed tocopherols.
ANY brand that has fish or fish meal can have the same problem...it can be ANY kind of fish. Most brands do not specify at all.
And I have tried things like Blue Buffalo, Canidae, Innova. Diarrhea was the result. Should I keep feeding a food that caused diarrhea? And YES, I know all about how to switch foods!!!!
By most people rationale, my dogs should have huge piles of soft poo due to the awful food they are eating. Why don't they? Why do they look great, have glossy coats, and great muscle tone with no allergies or skin problems???????????????
Explain it to me!!!!!

Blue Buffalo has "herring oil"...NO mention of how it is preserved.
Canidae, "herring meal"...NO mention of any preservative.

Thanks "believer" for showing your idiocy!!!!! The Diamond recall was NOT about melamine. That was the latest recall. The one before that involved Diamond was different. If you are going to answer the question...and actually NOT answer the question...at least have some actual FACTS!!!!

Frankly I could care less about "DESIGNER" dog foods. That's all most of them are. My dogs are strong, healthy and my vet says she wishes every ones dogs were in such good shape. Guess what people I use Pedigree. Have for many years. My dogs love it, I give them supplements and not one has EVER had a problem with it. They wont eat that other stuff. They just dont like it. If they weren't getting what they needed wouldn't it show up on their tests (blood included) My last dog died at 14 a Lab and I had a Saint live till 12 (almost unheard of) What I chose to feed my dogs is my business. What works for me may not work for you. They also get hamburger and rice at least once a week and natural bones for the marrow and calcium. They love it and I am happy with the results. Nuff said.

Well, as far as antifreeze and such, you are right, that is baloney. However there are things about Iams and Eukanuba that concerns me.
1- Almost all their formulas contain corn - Dog's digetive track is too short to effectively digest corn. Therefore, it is a pointless grain to use. It is also highly allergenic.
2- Their products contain meat by-products. - By law by products are any part of an animal other than meat or organs, such as beaks, feet, hair, hooves, skin, etc. These are not even digestable or nutritious.
3- They do not specify how their food is preserved. Many foods use BHT and BHA which are proven carcinogens and proven to cause organ failure. Also, they mention fish meal. Fish meal, by law could be any fish since they do not state the kind of fish. It could be goldfish flushed down the toilet. Again, they do not specify the means of preservation on the fish meal, which means they could use ethoxyquin. They do not, by law, have to list these preservatives if they were added to the ingredients before being manufactured in the food.
4- The meat content is low, which should be the primary ingredient.
It is my personal belief that these brands are complete junk, and I give my opinion when asked, however, I never state anything untrue. The above facts are facts, not urban legends and that is why I believe the food is junk.
Not all grains or vegetable matter are bad for dogs. Some are more digestable than others. Corn, wheat and soy are on the bad list as they are not very digestable. Barley, oats, rice, etc. are more quickly digested and are absorbed in the digestive track, where corn and such are not.
First off - it does not specify it is preserved with mixed tocopherols, that is only in the chicken fat. The rest of the food is preserved with an unnnamed source.
Secondly, most high quality foods do specify the kind of fish they use and specify how they are preserved and clearly list no use of ethoxyquin.
You keep asking people to explain why it is bad, which I have, so explain to me why it is so good. You are going to have a hard time with that one, aren't you?

Both foods contain waaaay to much corn. Dogs are carnivores not cornivores.
They also contiain methiodine, which is synthetic vitamin K. This can screw with the immune system, and should the dog ever need vit. K treatment, it can be very dangerous.
Also fish not for human consumption does often times get preserved with ethoxyquin, so even if its not listed, chances are its in the fish.
As far as antifreeze in pet foods. I haven't seen them listed in Iams or Eukanuba yet, and when I tell people that I say SOME foods. This is a fact, some foods do contain ingredients that are also in antifreeze, its called Ethylene Glycol. This is the ingredient used to make less toxic versions of antifreeze. Either way, its not going in my pet, along with corn, wheat, or soy. And any food I'd choose to feed MUST be primarily meat.

I can not name any chemical that is supposedly put in the food, other than the bogus website that was put up by PETA I have never heard anything about it nor have I researched it. Most of the stuff people repeat about dog food is just a rumor they "heard" somewhere and most have not even bothered to read up on the rumors nor do they bother to check to see if the rumor is true and they do not research dog food at all.

That's great. Thanks for verbally assaulting all of us. You feed your dog whatever you want to and I'll feed mine something of a higher grade - human grade and certified organic (which means NO pesticides - your corn and wheat and rice probably are covered in pesticides - there's some chemicals for you). And yes, pesticides kill.
For the recall, it was more than simply diamond foods. And the chemical was melamine.
Neither IAMS nor Eukanuba that I have found have allergy formulas, have organic formulas, and therefore, you are indeed putting pesticides into your dog. Those aren't chemicals that are "added" those are chemicals that come on the corn, rice and so on. Certified organic does not contain pesticides, that's what makes them certified organic. So if you want to feed food, you should try to at the very least, find organic.

Melamine was involved in one recall, aflatoxin in another, ethyl glycol type in another....there are also some suspect toxic fungi in some others....
ethoxyquin is not involved in recalls but it is added to some foods as a preservative. It has been know to cause cancer in canines and most high quality feed no longer has it.
ethoxyquin is a pesticide
http://www.petcaretips.net/ethoxyquin.html
Many manufacturers that have fish in their kibble will /have stated the fish is ethoxyquin free...well,the higher quality kibble makers do anyway.
Whatever you feed your pet make sure the ingredients used for production are human grade and not rancid meats or by products.

I've fed Iams Eukanuba for years. I fed Science Diet for many years and then switched after I bought my 15 yer old cocker as a puppy because that's what the breeder fed and she had good results with it. I have continued using it and have always had good results from Eukanuba....nice coat, good skin, less stools ect. And, my 15 year old is old and healthy!! There were times I challenged Eukanuba and tried something different.....I never had the same results and always went back to it. It may not be the best for every breed...but I know cockers do well on it.

You must be "cruisin for a bruisin" on this one!!
I agree with you. Iams and Eukanuba do not kill or harm dogs.
It is a disservice to go around saying it does, since MOST pet owners cannot afford more than supermarket brands. I mean, get real. There is a whole aisle of it. Some one is buying it.

Iams and Eukanuba are total crap foods anyways.
Nothing in them will kill any animals... just like nothing in cheese burgers will kill us, but they arent the best things to eat.
look at the first 5 ingredients. NO corn, NO soy, NO wheat. corn = poop, soy - allergies, wheat - allergies too.
NO by-products either - beaks and feet.
look for whole grains and veggies. not brewers rice - that is the cheappy rice.

IAMs is very cheap and sold at WalMart and pretty much everywhere
