Green onion or regular onion. Just use a smaller amount, because onions are stronger than shallots.

whatever you have on hand, red onion or green/spring onions would be closest. white and yellow onions are a bit harsher. a shallot is kind of a cross between onion and garlic.

Mince the onion and use about half of what it calls for in shallots.
