A pulled abdominal muscle will have pain, and you could possibly have a tight feeling. Depending on what muscle you have pulled it could very easily cause pain to have a bowel movement. It could take up to about 4 weeks for a pulled abdominal muscle to heal depending on how badly you injured it. Most likely I don't think a pulled abdominal muscle would cause swelling, but it is possible. If the pain gets too bad or persists for a while then go see a doctor. Ice, and ibuprofen should help with the pain. Good luck!

1) Lots of pain and discomfort in the site mentioned.
2) Yes, it sure can make having a bowel movement painful, due to the straining.
3) Healing takes time. Alternating heat/ice and taking an anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprophen can assist with the pain. There is a product called "Thermacare" that can assist in getting to the painful area. It eases the pain, gets right to the area in a deep penetrating way, and the heat, generated from iron, non medicated, lasts for a full 8 hours.
4) Absolutely, a pulled abdominal muscle can cause swelling.

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems. If this persists, please go to the Doctor. If this worsens, I would suggest that you go visit an Emergency Room. Very hard to diagnose somebody on this site, can only give you needed advice, which I hope was of some help. Take Care and Good Luck.
