My NIV study Bible is well over 800 pages, in small print (8 pt font) and in two columns per page. If that was in print like a typical novel, it would be well over 1600-2000 pages. So, how many people do you know that have memorized any book of this size?

That's like stating that someone should memorize the Iliad or the Odyssey, or 3 of the Harry Potter books word for word. I haven't met too many people capable of memorizing that large of a book - any book.

Few people have that sort of capability. The KJV has 773,692 words!

Some people have done so, though. I met a chap once, just a common layman, an everyday sort of fellow, who had memorized the Bible. He was a carpet cleaner and a member of Mensa, with a photographic memory. The Reverend Jack Van Impe has also memorized the Scripture.

Many of us have memorized many passages and understand what they mean. We memorize it in our own language, unlike Islam. Many Muslims don't even speak Arabic, but only the Quran. How can you gain from this? Also, memorization is a task...living it out is a privilege.

Because they figure that if it's worth knowing about, their pastor will tell them. And if he don't, they don't care.

I don't know about memorizing the Bible (AV1611) from cover to cover, but taking the time to memorize 20 or 30 verses of scripture is not unreasonable expectation.

If you think that's a lot, if your pastor went to theology school, ask him how many verses he was expected to learn?

Do you think it's just a coincidence that the King James Bible is the only one written in the English language were 2 Timothy 2:15 states this:

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

"Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read:" Isaiah 34:16

If you are saved by the blood of Jesus Christ, please read the tract below. It is titled: "Why no Revival?"

It's hard to memorize 1000+ pages of texts. I have heard of someone who actually did memorize the Bible. He's an idiot savant.

GOD bless

Sweet Pea you don't have to memorize the whole bible to make you a Christian. See God will give you the words to say or speak when that time come. It is great for those to be Christians to read the bible daily so they can feed their spirit with wonderful knowledge. God Bless!

I have memorized a lot of it. Like 1 Corinthians 3 where it says unbelievers can't understand the Bible.

We should at least read it daily. Keep the word of God close to our hearts that way we will keep in his will. Over the years I have known people that have memorized many verses of the bible.

How could you possibly know who memorized anything? But I think the Bible is a little long for that anyway.
