if someone passes away and leaves me money ( ie $30-40,000), will I lose my VA payments.....or will it be reduced?

Do any of my brothers-in-arms have any firsthand knowledge of this?

Thanks......PS: I always give the 10 points.

First of all thank you for your service! My husband is 100% disabled from injuries he received in Iraq. We were told by our representative that even if he was to win the lottery he would receive his benefits. I think it also depends on if your disablility was service related.

However, cases are different. If I were you I would check with a local VA Center. Here is a link to find the nearest location for a county service VA office near you https://iris.va.gov/scripts/iris.cfg/php.exe/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=5O1druKi&p_lva=&p_faqid=944&p_created=1147755425&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9ncmlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTc0JnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9JnBfc2VhcmNoX3R5cGU9NiZwX3Byb2RfbHZsMT00JnBfcHJvZF9sdmwyPX5hbnl_JnBfcGFnZT00&p_li=

Good luck! And thank you!

The answer to your question depends upon ALL THE FACTS. I am a Disabled Veteran and for sure I would lose my benefits, but it depends upon YOUR case. How long have you been declared "disabled"? What is your percentage"? Are you rated "permanent"?
Also, the VA is NOT consistant: another Vet I know had the same rating for his back as I do, but was working full time, had no problems with his back at all (could stoop, bend, reach with no problems) and still kept his.
So, it depends upon all the circumstances. Perhaps you could have the money go to your wife, or some such thing. Or, try to find out from the VA's website.

No, the only time money will be taken out of a VA check is if you earn military pay. For instance I recieve VA payments monthly but for a number of years I was in the National Guard and thus for every drill period I had to either forfeit the guard pay or the VA pay because you cannot get paid for service and disability for service at the same time. I was active for many years prior.

If you are getting disability from the VA like a 10% disability then it comes no matter what. I don't know about other types of payments.

No that is YOUR pension and it will continue to be raised with a COLA every year, In fact its all tax free so no matter what you make or recive your Disability will never have to be claimed as income.

An inheritance has nothing to do with your disability pay. Two completely different issues. Just watch out for the IRS, they will be wanting their crooked cut.

No they can NOT take it or penalize you for it.. if someone wills you the money it is tax exempt also.. it is a one time lump payment not a monthly income..
